ESADE partners with McIntire (University of Virginia) and Lingnan College (China) to train future global executives
ESADE has partnered with the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia (USA) and Lingnan College at Sun Yat-sen University (China) to offer a new Master of Science (MSc) in Global Strategic Management. The new programme is designed for recent university graduates, with the aim of training future executives in the implementation of global strategies and in the management of diverse, multicultural teams. The programme will explore the complexities of the global business environment from the North American, European and Asian perspectives.
The new MSc programme consists of four months at the University of Virginia, the only US university designated as a World Heritage Site and widely recognized for innovation in global business education; two months in Guangzhou, at one of China’s top universities; and four months at ESADE’s Barcelona campus. In September 2016, the first edition of the programme will allow students to experience the cultural immersion of living on three different continents over the course of 10 months and being surrounded by students from different cultures and professional fields. Students completing the program will receive a M.S. in Global Commerce from the University of Virginia, a certificate in international management from Lingnan (University) College, and an M.S. in Global Strategic Business from ESADE.
“The programme will provide a high-added-value experience that will prepare recent graduates – mainly from the Americas, Europe and Asia – to achieve excellence in the complex and dynamic global economy, commented Josep Franch, Dean of ESADE Business School. “All three schools consider this programme to be an integrative proposal in terms of both the curriculum and the various components of the academic and vital experience.
McIntire Dean Carl Zeithaml echoed Franch’s statements. “The new program allows students to study on three continents and receive two master’s degrees and a certificate from three world class business schools in one integrated experience. It marks a critical step forward in providing a new generation of business leaders with the skills and experiences they need to meet the challenges of today’s demanding global business environment, Zeithaml said. “We look forward to working in close collaboration with our outstanding partners at ESADE and Lingnan to ensure that the new program offers a truly world-class educational experience.
Xinzhong Xu, Dean of Lingnan College at Sun Yat-sen University, commented: “This program will provide students with unparalleled in-depth exposure to unique cultures and different business environments in Asia, Europe and the USA. These exposures will not only enable the students to have fast-track careers but also will have great impact on their lives as individuals.
A more global profile
Today’s business world requires leaders with extensive international experience who are capable of implementing global strategies, who have cultural knowledge, and who possess abilities and tools that enable them to work in multicultural settings.
This new master’s programme, developed by three internationally renowned universities, will allow participants to acquire a more global profile, as well as the ability to manage large companies. It will also provide a high-added-value experience for recent university graduates, most of whom are expected to come from the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Top-tier faculty from each of the three schools will prepare students to address internal management challenges at organisations that are growing ever larger and more diverse. The programme will teach tomorrow’s executives to take advantage of the available competitive advantages, striking a balance between local adaptation and global integration.
Rising international demand for pre-experience master’s programmes
The new MSc in Global Strategic Management was created in response to the worldwide trend of recent university graduates seeking to specialise in a particular area before gaining work experience. The programme is being launched amid a boom in demand for Masters of Science: at ESADE, MSc enrolment has increased by 22% since last year. “The current profile of ESADE’s MSc students is very international, but predominantly European, commented Dr. Franch. “With the new MSc in Global Strategic Management, we hope to attract students with a more global profile, similar to that of our Full-Time MBA students. On completion of the programme, participants will receive two degrees and one certificate from the three prestigious universities.
Another ESADE Master of Science programme, the MSc in Finance, was ranked #2 worldwide and #1 among Spanish schools by the Financial Times in its most recent ranking of pre-experience master’s programmes in finance.
