As part of the event “Créixer en digital: drets, propòsit i co-responsabilitat”, held on 17 February 2026 and promoted by the Chair for Socially Responsible Digital Innovation at Esade and the Exea Impact Foundation, the roundtable “Construir experiències digitals amb propòsit” took place.
The session was moderated by David Murillo, professor in the Department of Society, Politics and Sustainability at Esade, and brought together voices from the technological, cultural, psychological and youth fields to reflect on how to design healthier and more meaningful digital environments.
Among the ideas raised during the discussion was the need to rethink the design of digital devices in order to avoid addictive dynamics and promote more conscious uses of technology. In this regard, Albert Beltrán Feliu, co-founder of Balance Phone, noted that smartphones can be designed as tools rather than as wells of distraction, opening the door to technological models that prioritize well-being.
he debate also addressed the impact that digital environments have on the mental health of children and adolescents. Josep Matalí Costa, head of the Psychology and Outpatient Section of the Addictive Behaviours Unit at Hospital Sant Joan de Déu, emphasized the importance of understanding what works well in terms of digital resilience in order to strengthen protective factors during childhood and adolescence.
The conversation also incorporated the youth perspective. Clàudia Larumbe Serra, a young participant in SoReDI CoP, stressed that the voice of young people should be present in all phases of digital design and governance. This conviction has led her to join the SoReDI team as a youth fellow.
The discussion also highlighted the role of public institutions in promoting more equitable and culturally rich digital environments. Marisol López, Director General for Innovation and Digital Culture at the Government of Catalonia, shared examples of how public policies can promote good practices in sectors such as the video game industry and contribute to the development of safer and more enriching digital environments.
Throughout the session, David Murillo, as moderator, guided the conversation and facilitated a collective reflection that integrated the different perspectives present in the debate.
