Dr. Manel del Castillo holds a PhD in Medicine from the University of Barcelona, is a specialist in Family and Community Medicine, and holds a Master's degree in Public Management from ESADE.
Since 2024, he has served as Secretary General of Sant Joan de Déu Hospitality Europe and President of the Committee for the Reform of the Catalan Healthcare System (CAIROS) of the Government of Catalonia. Internationally, he serves as Past President of the European Children’s Hospital Organisation (ECHO), promoting collaboration among paediatric hospitals across Europe.
His career in healthcare management began as Primary Care Manager in Mallorca. He later served as Regional Director of IB-Salut Balears and Director of the Hospital Manacor Foundation. In Catalonia, he was Director of Badalona Municipal Hospital and Secretary General of the Consorci d'Associació Patronal Sanitària i Social (CAPSS). From 2003 until April 2026, he was Chief Executive Officer of Sant Joan de Déu Barcelona Children's Hospital, leading the institution towards excellence in paediatric care and research.
Dr. Del Castillo has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Arthur Andersen–Diario Médico Award, the BearingPoint Award, the Profesor Barea Award, the Mercè Sala Award, the National Health Informatics Award, the Health Revolution Award, and La Vanguardia Innovation and Science Award. He is also a Professor of Healthcare Management at the University of Barcelona and a Visiting Professor at leading business schools such as IESE, ESADE, and La Salle.
