Navigating Turbulent Times in Philanthropy
Navigating Turbulent Times in Philanthropy
Aligning strategy and impact management is essential for philanthropic foundations seeking to maximise their contribution to social change. This publication, developed with insights from the Esade-BBK Community of Practice on Impact Measurement and Management, reflects the perspectives of European funders, their partners, and other stakeholders in the field. The aim is to help foundations strengthen the link between strategic decision-making and impact evidence, moving from a compliance-driven approach to one that fosters learning, adaptability, and more effective use of resources.
Case Studies
The report combines sector-wide analysis with three in-depth case studies featuring Argidius, Sitra, and The Robertson Trust. Each case offers a concrete illustration of how different foundations are integrating impact management into their strategic processes, from long-term systemic change initiatives to agile, future-oriented strategies. Together, they provide practical lessons and inspiration for philanthropic organisations navigating complex contexts while striving for greater alignment between their mission, strategy, and impact.
