ESADE recently had the privilege of hosting Steve Blank, one of the fathers of the Lean Start-up movement and an expert on corporate innovation.

The author of The Four Steps to the Epiphany and The Startup Owner’s Manual participated in a discussion about new professional opportunities in today’s entrepreneurial world with two faculty members from ESADE’s Department of Strategy and General Management: Associate Professor Jan Brinckmann and Assistant Professor Jaume Villanueva. The session, held at ESADEFORUM, attracted a large audience.

Mr. Blank stressed the importance of entrepreneurship, of taking risks in order to succeed, and of sharing knowledge with new entrepreneurs. "If you are a successful entrepreneur, you should return the favour by teaching future generations," he declared. Mr. Blank also mentioned the need to encourage the creation of more start-ups in Barcelona: "The start-up ecosystem in Barcelona is like the Sagrada Família – it’s still a work in progress. It needs more crazy investments and a culture of risk-taking."

During his visit to ESADE, Mr. Blank also delivered a commencement address entitled "Your Role in the Coming Revolution in Corporate Organisation" at the Full-Time MBA graduation ceremony. He also attended a class of the Master in Innovation and Entrepreneurship at ESADE’s EGarage, where he shared with students some tools and tips for creating and developing innovative corporate initiatives.
