Juan Arena, appointed member of ESADE Board of Trustees
Dr Juan Arena, President of the SERES Foundation, which is dedicated to promoting corporate commitment to corporate social responsibility, has been appointed member of the ESADE Board of Trustees.
Dr Arena has extensive experience in executive management (he was president of Bankinter for five years, after over 30 years working for the company). He brings relevant Executive Education experience as a visiting professor at Harvard as well as being a member of the European Advisory Board for the same institution, the ESADE Professional Council and the Board of Directors of Deusto Business School.
His addition to the Board of Trustees, chaired by Pedro Fontana, means the ratification, in particular, of one of ESADE's priorities: training in social commitment and responsible executive management.
Born in Mexico City in 1943, Dr Juan Arena attained a PhD in Electromechanical Engineering from ICAI and a degree in Business Administration from ICADE. He has also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School. In 1970, he joined Bankinter, where he held various positions. In 1985, he was appointed Managing Director and in 1987 joined the company's Board of Directors. In 1993, he was appointed CEO, and from March 2002 to April 2007 he served as President of the company. During the 2009-2010 academic year, he taught at Harvard Business School.
Dr Arena currently serves on the Boards of Prisa, Ferrovial, Laboratorios Almirall, Everis, Panda, Sol Meliá and Villafañe & Associates. He is also President of the SERES Foundation, a foundation for corporate social responsibility, and a member of the Advisory Board of Spencer Stuart Marsh and Consulnor. He is also Senior Advisor to Oaktree and member of the European Advisory Board of Harvard Business School and the Board of Directors of Deusto Business School. He was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit for his work in the Special Inquiry Commission into the Development of the Information Society.
