ESADE researcher Tomás Guerrero to participate in the 10th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF)
ESADE researcher Tomás Guerrero has been invited to speak at the 10th World Islamic Economic Forum (WIEF) in a panel discussion entitled “Streamlining the Halal Supply Chain: Ensuring Integrity. Organised by the WIEF Foundation in Dubai, the World Islamic Economic Forum has been the largest international gathering of heads of government, economic experts and stakeholders to share experiences and knowledge about Islamic economy since its launch in 2004.
“Spain has all the necessary characteristics to create a halal food hub around the triangle formed by the cities of Córdoba, Málaga and Granada: a dynamic agribusiness environment, high-quality products, excellent infrastructure for exports, a prestigious and recognisable brand (Ál-Andalus), an institution in charge of halal certification (Halal Institute, Córdoba), and three cities with strong cultural and economic relationships with the Islamic world, affirms Guerrero, who is currently working on a report on the halal industry for PwC and will be the first Spaniard to speak at the WIEF. The researcher from the ESADE Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics (ESADEgeo) will share a panel with Sebnem Sen, Warehouse Analyst and Inspection Manager at Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC); Manwoo Han, Deputy Director at Korea Agro Fisheries Trade Corporation; and Saleh Abdullah Lootah, Managing Director at Al Islami Foods in the United Arab Emirates.
Expected to attract more than 2,500 participants, the WIEF will run from 28th to 30th October at the Madinat Jumeirah Hotel in Dubai. With the central theme “Innovative Partnerships for Economic Growth, the WIEF will feature the participation of global leaders, business leaders and high-profile speakers discussing on the potential of the Islamic economy to address some of the most critical economic and business-related issues facing the world today.
