ESADE and ICADE launch the second edition of the Lawyering Programme
The new ICADE-ESADE Lawyering Programme will be launched in September 2015. Thirty-four students graduated from its first edition. All the programme’s participants had been carefully chosen after a tough selection process. Its graduates will occupy top jobs in leading companies and Law Practices in Spain and abroad. The Master’s programme is imparted on ESADE’s Madrid campus and is wholly taught in English.
José María de Areilza, Professor at the ESADE Law School, said that 50 students are envisaged for the programme’s second edition. Participation in the Double Master’s Degreed offered by ICADE-ESADE will mainly be based on the candidate’s academic excellence. The initiative is a response to "the need for lawyers who can work in various jurisdictions and have a grasp of the global market", explained Areilza.
Both faculties have joined forces to offer unique training that is based on a view of ethical values applied to multinationals. The Masters Degrees in Law meet pressing international needs in this field.
Competitive advantage
A major competitive advantage of the ICADE-ESADE Lawyering Programme is that it allows students to take two Master’s Degrees in fifteen months and obtain both a university qualification that gives access to Lawyer Training Programmes and confers either a Master’s Degree in Global Business Law or in Tax Consultancy. The programme’s internships introduce students to daily work in the profession and provide various real-life cases and simulations to prepare participants for their future careers.
This combination and the two post-graduate qualifications (one official and the other granted by the schools) is unique and gives students the intensive training they need to fill top posts in Spain and abroad.
Transformation and business globalisation
The ICADE-ESADE Lawyering Programme is a response to the sweeping changes taking place in the work of business lawyers and tax advisers — both fields that are being revolutionised by business globalisation. In this context, the lawyer’s role is add value to the transactions he takes part in and to furnish sound business knowledge of the sectors in which his clients operate. This requires leadership, negotiation, teamwork and a strong awareness of his social and ethical duties.
ESADE contribution to this Double Master’s Programme lies in its links with the professional world and its expertise in the management field. Both ICADE and ESADE receive advice from top law firms to keep them in touch with the legal profession’s requirements.
The programme is jointly directed by Federico Montalvo, Professor at ICADE, and José M. de Areilza, Professor at ESADE. The Master in Tax Consultancy is imparted by Salvador Ruiz, a Tax Inspector on indefinite leave and a practicing lawyer.
