David Vegara, new lecturer of economics at ESADE
David Vegara will be joining the ESADE faculty as lecturer in the Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting. In addition to his recent stint as Deputy Managing Director of the European Stability Mechanism (ESM), with responsibility for banking and the development of the direct recapitalisation instrument for financial institutions, Vegara has extensive professional experience, including time at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and in the Spanish government, where he was State Secretary for Economic Affairs for five years. Vegara holds an undergraduate degree in economics from the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and an MSc in economics from the London School of Economics. Previously, he worked in the research department of Banco Sabadell and was Chairman of the brokerage firm InterMoney, S.A. In 2007, he was named a Young Global Leader at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Beginning in April, Professor Vegara will be teaching on various ESADE programmes in the fields of economics and international finance at the institution’s campus in Madrid. He will also be Vice President of ESADEgeo, the global economy and geopolitics think tank headed by Javier Solana.
Eugenia Bieto, Director General of ESADE, underscored "the experience and knowledge of global economic management" that Professor Vegara will be able to share with ESADE programme participants as a result of his time at European institutions and the IMF.
Early in his academic career, Vegara had already taught at ESADE, as an assistant professor in the department currently headed by Professor F. Xavier Mena.
