  • The solidarity internship projects carried out by ESADE students are intended to encourage the values of social responsibility and the commitment of future professionals to their profession.

    Below you will find a brief summary of the projects in which ESADE Law and Management students participated during recent summers.
     


  • Business Administration Projects in 2.007

  • PROJECTS IN BOLIVIA   (Poster in pdf version)

    - Plan for Marketing Peaches (El Puente). Tarija.
    Promotion of solidarity-minded forms of organisation among peach producers in order to:
     a) Improve profit margins.
     b) Increase bargaining power in negotiations with intermediaries.
    Emphasis on control of production costs and the development of a business vision.

    - Plan for Marketing Honey (Entre Ríos). Tarija.
    Growth proposals for existing organisations in the town. 
     a) Expand production facilities.
     b) Increase number of partners.
    Diversification of risk: selling other bee products (propolis, beeswax, royal jelly, etc.).

    - 'Basic Education by Radio' Project, Loyola Cultural Action Foundation (ACLO) (Potosí).
    Evaluation of the cost of the department and the 'Basic Education by Radio' project. 
    Analysis of the radio department's income statements.
    Creation of radio programmes on marketing strategies.
    Cost analysis in order to evaluate and review radio pricing.
    Analysis of administrative procedures and development of new flowcharts.

    - Antigua Business Management CENTRE (CEGE) - (Sacatepéquez).
    Situational diagnosis of the wood, iron, ceramic and textile craft sectors in six towns of the Department of Sacatepéquez in order to identify resources and potentialities and to present proposals on how to handle the identified problems.

    - CHIRREPEC-Cooperativa Agrícola Integral, SL
    An agricultural cooperative that produces and sells black tea in Cobán. Marketing plan aimed at increasing sales of tea and reducing inventory (items in storage since 2005). Review of the 2002-2006 strategic plan to improve preparations for the next period (2007-2011).

    - ASILCOM Sawmill - (Cobán)
    Changes in the salary structure in the sawmill's production area. Establishment of a ratio for payment of all lumber produced (measured in board feet) that would exceed the established goal, in order to increase salaries and productivity.

    - ACODIHUE - Association of Small Coffee Farmers (Huehuetenango).
    Organisational reengineering of the association and proposal of a new organisational chart.
    Plan for communicating with communities in order to improve information flow and stay up-to-date (e.g. new growing techniques, market prices for coffee, meteorology, etc.).

     

    PROJECTS IN EL SALVADOR   (Poster in pdf version)

    - Jesuit Development Service (SJD)
    Design of a system for monitoring and evaluating development projects, based on indicators that track the work carried out by the SJD as well as the objectives of the Strategic Plan, with emphasis on the economic, social and political aspects of rural development.
    Design of a system implementation model, with all necessary organisational requirements and implications.

    - JUAN XXIII Institute for Social Action
    Analysis of the sustainability of the Essential Medicines Programme. 
    Design of a system for managing housing payments and estimation of the costs of operating the system. 
    Analysis of the institution's sustainability. Implementation of a system for controlling the financial health of the administration department. Verification of compliance with the manual of responsibilities and development of proposals for improving administrative operations.

    - Chacaraseca (León) and El Bonete (Chinandea) Cooperatives - Agricultural and Rural Development Area (ADAA)
    Development of two strategic marketing plans - one for a nursery cooperative and one for an association of calabash-seed producers. Fieldwork to establish a framework of reference, analysis and diagnosis for proposing strategies and action plans.

    - Local Development Fund (FDL)
    Managua: Identification of service-quality problems at regional offices. Proposal for a computer-based indicator system to control and manage quality at the FDL.
    Honduras (Credisol): Market survey (potential clients of Credisol and the micro-finance sector in Honduras) to be used as a reference in the development of a short- and medium-term strategic plan for the Olanchito Regional Office, as well as a long-term positioning proposal.

    - Small-Business Promotion Department (NITLAPÁN)
    Detecting the training needs of various groups (craftspeople, farmers and ranchers) and developing training proposals. 
    Proposal for a 'linking process' for the pork-production sector (organising a community's producers to help them get around harmful intermediaries).

    - Communications Project for ACLO Radio Stations
    Definition of corporate marketing strategy for the media systems of the ACLO Foundation (Sucre, Potosí and Tarija). Benchmarking and Conclusions.

    - Market Research on Honey and Peaches. Tarija.
    Market research on peaches and honey. Consumer characteristics and preferences to enable design and planning for launching of new products made from peaches such as jams, juices and yoghurts. Demand Study. Training of rural workers. Strategic recommendations.

    - ASOVITA
    Study and plan of action for placing agricultural products in the markets at Sucre, Potosí and the surrounding area.

    - ASDECOHUE Association of Micro-Producers of Coffee
    Support to the head of the market intelligence department. Strategic marketing plan. 

    - ACODIHUE-ASDECOHUE Feasibility and management study of "Dry Milling"
    Economic, administrative and management feasibility. External consultancy requested by the EU to analyse grants through investments in the Huhuetenango coffee sector.

    - Diagnosis of Rural Communities of the Municipality of San Juan de Chanelco (COBAN) 
    Diagnosis of the communities Sacquil, Chenisún, Nueva Chicabnab, Chanil, for training in development of productive capacities. Visit municipality's current projects. Detection of economi and social training needs. Diagnosis of problems in introducing projects and recommendations for the communities.

    - "Las Casas" Forestry
    Study of exploitation costs around the University Rafael Landívar's Cobán regional centre. Conducting 3 feasibility studies to examine the profitability of exploitation.

    - Antigua Craftspersons' Cooperative
    Mapping of craftspeople in the area and preparation of core documents for short training courses related to costs, marketing and operations.

    - Apiculture Cooperatives of Mainuca, Ciudad Darío.
    Developing strategic marketing plans for two producer cooperatives: one for beans and sweet corn, another for honey. Proposal for measures to boost current yield and find new commercialisation channels.

    - NITLAPÁN - Promotion of Small Enterprises Programme
    Consultancy to diverse business initiatives of young Nicaraguan micro-entrepreneurs starting up their business activities. Design of strategic plan and feasibility analysis of new business projects.

    - Study of Costs of the U.C.A.
    Analysis of the University's business units. Development and implementation of a costs model with a view to the institution's self-sustainability.

    - Tool for Competence Analysis (Market Intelligence) in the Local Development Fund (FDL)
    Creating a tool to discover the trend/evolution of the prices funded by the LDF and diagnosis of the feasibility of conceding credits according to business expectations.

    - Satisfaction Study on Training for Rural Women under the Local Development Fund (FDL)
    Diagnosis of training needs and proposal for new financial products designed for this market segment.

    - Marketing Plan for the Commercialisation of the Cereal Amaranth 
    Strategic marketing plan on a new product line deriving from an Andean cereal, amaranth, aimed at introducing it onto the Bolivian market and placing the product in the forms of soft drink and "toasted product". ASOVITA rural workers' cooperative.

    - Hotel Project in Potosí 
    Feasibility diagnosis for establishing a hotel in Potosí. Analysis of the hotel sector in Bolivia; drawing up a marketing plan; study of financial feasibility and type of investment; legal framework etc. that would lead to a hotel being built for ACLO.

    - Cafés Genuinos Huehuetenango 
    Organisational redesign and commercialisation of the coffee brand (Marketing plan). 

    - Creation of a Business Development Centre of the URL Huehuetenango
    Creation of a consultancy and research centre for local companies that could also be used for internships for students at the URL's regional centre.

    - Antigua Craftsperson's Guild
    Analysis of the craft sector. Legal and organisational advice to the Antigua Craftsperson's Guild including the creation of Regulations on Rules of Procedure.

    - Marketing Plan for the Business Management Centre (CEGE) of ANTIGUA (URL-ETEA) 
    Conducting market research for training courses for people running small and medium-sized enterprises at the Centre.

    - Diagnosis and Analysis of the NGOs in the Department of Sacatepéquez
    Conducting a census of NGOs operating in the area and analysis of synergies between them.

    - NITLAPAN - Department of Promotion of Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise, UCA
    Research and design of new products for the Department of Promotion of the Micro, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprise of the UCA NITLAPÁN. Design of new services that will help reinforce the business fabric in Nicaragua and increase its competitiveness.

    - Development of 3 new financial products within the Local Development Fund (FDL)
    Creation and development of a credit financial product to finance studies, facilitating access to university studies, particularly in the rural environment.
    Creation of a new product to attract international remittances. To study potential demand for international remittances service among LDF customers (customer profile and proposed product).
    Methodological proposal for the Market Intelligence area of the LDF. To systematise a new financial products development tool, leaving a written report of the project and a modelisation of the process.

    - Employment Agency for the UCA University
    Overall design of the Employment Agency for UCA students and graduates. Design of data base, definition of staff and project coordination, study of the Nicaraguan employment market and collaboration with the country's private and non-governmental companies.

    - CEGE - UCA Management Centre
    Detection of recruitment requirements for staff of Mayors in the Department of Ribas. Diagnosis of staff training needs in each the ten departmental Mayors' offices using field work (interviews and recommendations proposal).

  • PROJECTS IN EL SALVADOR    (Poster in pdf version)

    - Assessment of the efficiency of the poverty reduction programmes through exports.
    Elaboration of a report for the International Trade Centre to find the main causes of success/failure in the implementation of these programmes and the measurement of the economic-social impact, and sustainability in the beneficiary region.

    - Diagnosis of a brick construction co-operative
    Study of the real costs of the production of a brickyard (unit cost, break-even point, etc.), recommendations for financial viability and proposals for possible improvements at sales level.

    - Tourism viability study for San José de las Flores
    Study to determine the tourism potential of the area to attract investments and visitors.

    - Co-operative project with artisans from La Palma
    Diagnosis to propose improvements for the members of the co-operative at organizational, legal, financial and administrative level.

    - Analysis of the coffee production costs of a family business
    Study of the real costs of various coffee plantations to determine the real price of a kilo of coffee for a family business, in order to maximize the profits and devote part of them to charitable work.

    - Institute of Human Rights of the UCA (IDHUCA)
    Law clerk and legal assistance work in Civil, Commercial and Criminal Law cases. Research on the rights of the prison population and of migrants.

    - Segundo Montes Centre for Human Rights (IDHUCA)
    Training in human rights for the members of the defending counsels of communities and talks on human rights for the young people from the institutes.

    - Marketing plan for the CASART Chamber of Artisans

    - Agricultural product marketing study
    Plan for the marketing of 9 by-products of the peanut, capsicum and maize produced by the farmers of the area of Chuquisaca. The study includes the marketing mix of the products and the proposal for a short- and medium-term sales strategy. 

    - Design sales plan
    Diagnosis of the companies and farmers' associations with which ACLO works to analyze their organization and the flows between them. Development of a marketing plan for their products.

    - Analysis and diagnostic of the planning sector in the city of Nagarote.
    Detection of needs to elaborate an improvement plan aimed at bakers and cake makers (business advice and marketing and finance diagnosis).

    - Legal aid centre of the UCA.
    Assist with the tasks of the legal aid centre in the proceedings of cases from the administrative area, penitentiary law, legal aid, the criminal area, and accompanying people to the courts of justice.

    - Creation of a crafts marketing company.
    Market research (quantification of the supply, of the production potential, etc.), analysis of the "fair trade" channels and support with strategic matters for the creation of a marketing company allowing craft products to be exported from Masaya and San Juan de Oriente.

    - Diagnosis of the tourism industry of San Juan del Sur.
    Study of the possibility of MSMEs in order to convert it into a competitive tourism destination at international level. Fieldwork to diagnose the problems and propose solutions.

    - Strategic planning workshop for micro and small entrepreneurs.
    Methodological design of the workshop for microentrepreneurs from the programme for the promotion of the small company in the NITLAPAN Institute of the UCA, and elaboration of cases of successful companies.

    - Diagnosis of the operation of an individual credit line of the microfinance organization Local Development Fund (FDL).
    Project aimed at analyzing the operation of the individual credit line for the agricultural and cattle-raising sector, and also of the microcredit solidarity groups of the Mercado Oriental, in order to improve the efficacy and the efficiency of the organization.

    - "Access, modernization and recovery of Justice" project
    Research project intended to improve the Guatemalan judicial system, allowing real access to justice for the most disadvantaged and recovering the common law of Mayan legal systems to try to integrate it into the country's legal system.  

    - Forum of dialogue between the different operators of justice
    Organization of the 1st forum in Huhuetenango to detect the factors for the measurement of the "Index of Access to Justice" (1st step of the longitudinal study of the research project).

    - ASDECOHUE agricultural co-operative
    Market research for the marketing of its vegetables and viability study for the creation of the "Café Huehuetenango" brand name

    - CEDFOG - Centre for Studies and documentation of the Western Border of Guatemala
    Diagnosis for the improvement of the management of administrative and financial management processes of the Documentation Centre.

    - Municipality of Chiantla
    Carrying out of an organizational study on the hierarchies existing in the Town Council and the work processes that they carry out.

    Collaboration and assistance with hearings and mediation sessions. Interviews with various civil servants in order to get an in-depth understanding of the Centre for the Administration of Justice's operations and the day-to-day reality of the country.

    - ACODIHUE Association of Small Coffee Farmers - Huehuetenango - GUATEMALA
    Assistance with applying for export licenses and creating cooperatives.

    - People's Law Office at the Alta Verapaz Campus of Rafael Landívar University - Cobán - GUATEMALA
    Collaboration and legal assistance for poor people. Settlement and mediation processes. Report on the law office's work.

    - Research on Domestic Violence - Cobán - GUATEMALA
    Legal and field research on domestic violence and its legal implications in Cobán, San Juan Chamelco and San Cristóbal.

    - UCA Institute for Human Rights (IDHUCA) - EL SALVADOR
    Preparation of a report on El Salvador's anti-terrorism law and its application, with the objective of drafting a bill to improve this law.
    Comparative analysis of the development and operation of the forensic police in order to make them more independent and efficient at solving crimes.

    - People's Law Office at UCA - NICARAGUA
    Free legal assistance and advice for poor people in the areas of administrative, commercial, civil and criminal law. Civil settlement and mediation processes. Assistance with writing documents for lawsuits and other civil litigation.

    Preparing a report on the legal consequences of the coming into force of the CAFTA (Central America Free Trade Agreement) for the Huehuetenango area.

    - Research Project "Access, Recovery and Modernisation of Justice" - GUATEMALA
    Field work in the indigenous community of Soloma for drawing up statistical indicators on access to justice in the area. Evaluation report on the operation of courts and legal offices of the Department of Huehuetenango.
