History
  • The ESADE project was conceived in the spring of 1954 by a group of Catalan professionals and entrepreneurs dedicated to the idea of founding a university center of business research and training. The said institution would prepare and equip students with the skills necessary to create and run businesses and associations. After signing an agreement with the Societas Iesu in October 1958, ESADE was born.
  • In the 1960s, ESADE formulated a paradigm of business training which broke with the existing economic and administrative models of the time. The school pioneered a business management focus which more closely resembled the university programs found in more advanced countries.
  • During this decade, new centers and academic programs were created. Thus, in 1960, the Center of Management Development (today Executive Education) was founded. 1964 saw the initiation of the first edition of the ESADE MBA program; and in 1965 the language school (today Executive Language Center) was founded. The ESADE law school, founded in 1993, became a part of the University Ramon Llull in 1995.
  • In the 1980s, following the economic crisis, the collapse of the dictatorship and the rising tension among all sectors of society in the 1970s, ESADE underwent a surge of qualitative and quantitative growth, which strengthened its training and research, and permitted ESADE to take a leadership role in international collaborations within the business training area.
  • Since then, over 46,000 executives have been associated with ESADE in numerous projects and have, as a result, contributed to the dream of the institution's founders. According to a September 2006 and September 2007 ranking by The Wall Street Journal, ESADE is currently the most highly regarded institution of its type among members of the business community, and is similarly ranked among the top 10 European business schools in major MBA, Executive Education and university programs.
  • Every year over 550 students participate in courses that promote entrepreneurial spirit and initiate over 200 business projects, 50 of which are specifically supported by the ESADE Technological Trampoline while all are aided by over 400 collaborators.
  • Today ESADE, after half a century of experience, continues to contribute to the development of business leaders, teams and organizations as well as the rigorous preparation of legal experts. This is evident in the over 35,000 ESADE alumni world-wide, who occupy important positions in all types of businesses and organizations and who contribute to the economic and social development of their communities.
