Peking University's Guanghua School of Management and ESADE Business School announce their new partnership
The Guanghua School of Management, a pillar of China’s educational landscape, and ESADE Business School, one of Europe’s top business schools, announced this morning that they have signed a new partnership. After several years of academic collaboration, the two institutions will be taking their joint projects to the next level. The first initiative launched under this new partnership will be a Dual MBA program. The first year of this program will be taught at ESADE’s Barcelona campus, while the second year will be taught at Guanghua’s Peking University campus in Beijing.
The Guanghua School of Management (mba.pku.edu.cn/english/) is the official business school of Peking University, China’s oldest and most prestigious educational institution. Guanghua is highly regarded for its impact on China’s contemporary social and economic development. Its faculty and programs offer unparalleled insight into the realities of doing business in China’s ever-changing business landscape while emphasizing the need for practical academia.
ESADE Business and Law School (www.esade.edu) has campuses in Barcelona and Madrid (Spain). It also has a presence in Mexico, Brazil, Perú, Colombia, Chile, and Argentina. As one of Europe’s premier business schools, ESADE is known for its excellent training in innovation, entrepreneurship, and social leadership. The Financial Times recently ranked ESADE 3rd among European business schools and 5th worldwide in Executive Education. ESADE has more than 150 agreements with international universities, including Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and HEC Paris. It also has an alumni network of 50,000 professionals who hold positions of responsibility at companies across the globe.
According to Dr. Eugenia Bieto, Director General of ESADE, the new agreement with Guanghua "confirms ESADE’s commitment to internationalization" through alliances with globally renowned institutions and will help the school to strengthen its educational programs for "executives who aspire to lead the global economy". Despite their different locations, Dr. Bieto noted that ESADE and Guanghua "have many points in common", including "very similar program portfolios", "a similar number of faculty members", and the same conviction that innovation is "the key tool for the future of business".
Dean of Guanghua School of Management, Dr. Cai Hongbin believes the program will continue Guanghua's mission to cultivate students' international and global perspective. Just as Barcelona is a gateway to understanding Europe and Latin American Business, Guanghua will welcome students to Beijing to experience the rapidly developing Chinese economic environment. An international learning experience is central to the Guanghua MBA curriculum. "This program gives students from Guanghua and ESADE the chance to experience the splendid culture and long history of China and Spain and to learn about the unique business environments of China and Europe," said Dr. Cai Hongbin, Dean of Guanghua School of Management.
New ESADE-Guanghua Dual MBA
The agreement between Peking University, Guanghua School of Management and ESADE Business School calls for the launch of a new two-year Dual MBA program in September 2015. Participants will complete the first year of the program at ESADE’s Barcelona–Sant Cugat campus, covering all areas of general management in a newly redesigned MBA, whilst being able to take advantage of the extended program, on-site consultancy projects, and Spanish language classes. The second year takes place at Guanghua’s campus in Beijing. Here, participants will be able to choose courses from a rigorous curriculum covering core business practices complemented by specialist China-focused subjects. Students will also be given every opportunity, and the requisite support, to learn Mandarin. Upon completion of the program, students will receive two MBA degrees – one from each institution.
To be admitted to the ESADE-Guanghua Dual MBA, candidates must have a solid academic record and two years of work experience. They must also complete admissions interviews with both institutions. As the program is designed for high caliber prospects, the six most talented and promising applicants will be admitted the first year. Dual MBA participants will have access to the career-support services of both ESADE and Guanghua, and they will be eligible to join both schools’ alumni associations.
ESADE and Guanghua have been collaborating on academic projects for several years. The two institutions currently have an exchange program for students in the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA), and MBA programs. They have organized international training weeks for MSc students at the Barcelona–Sant Cugat and Beijing campuses. The China-based module of the ESADE-Georgetown Global Executive MBA program is imparted at Guanghua’s campus in Beijing. The "Corporate Strategy" subject of ESADE’s MBA program is taught by lecturers from both institutions. And finally, Guanghua and ESADE jointly organized a public conference entitled "China, Europe: Going Global", featuring faculty members from both schools.
