On 25th November, KIC InnoEnergy Iberia – a company partnered with the Spanish Centre for Energy, Environment and Technology Research (CIEMAT), ESADE, Gas Natural Fenosa, the Catalan Energy Research Institute (IREC), the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC BarcelonaTech) and other entities – was chosen as the winner of the 2013 National Research Award in the category “Public-Private Partnership in Research and Innovation". The award ceremony will take place on 27th January at the National Theatre of Catalonia.

Founded in 2011, KIC InnoEnergy Iberia, S.L. aims to foster innovation and boost the impact of sustainable energy on European society and the economy. The company has emerged as a paragon of cooperation between public entities (IREC, UPC) and private agents (ESADE, Gas Natural Fenosa) with the support of the European Commission.

After just three years, the company has become consolidated in its sphere of operation: public-private cooperation in the field of energy. It offers numerous advanced training programmes (master’s degrees and doctorates) in collaboration with businesses, as well as mixed projects focusing on research, innovation, knowledge protection and business creation.

Organised by the Catalan Government and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, the National Research Awards foster the social recognition of scientists, researchers, patrons, business owners and communicators.
