With half of the world's nations represented in its classrooms, ESADE's Sant Cugat campus has become an international icon
In 2014, ESADE marks the fifth anniversary of its Sant Cugat campus. In five short years, the campus has welcomed students from 90 different countries – practically half of the world’s nations – and become a leading hub for international programmes, entrepreneurs and innovation.
In Sant Cugat, students from Kyrgyzstan, Serbia, Kenya, Israel and South Africa have participated in the Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA), while the MBA has attracted participants from Taiwan, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Lebanon and Namibia. ESADE’s Masters of Science (Bologna Masters) are also taught in Sant Cugat.
Over the past five years, ESADE’s Sant Cugat facility has seen the creation of the world’s first MBA campus, a Palo Alto–inspired space dedicated exclusively to entrepreneurs, a new BBA programme taught entirely in English, and new degree programmes. The campus is also home to ESADECREAPOLIS, which houses more than 80 companies as well as the innovation departments of companies in a wide range of sectors.
Leader in innovation and entrepreneurship
The Sant Cugat campus has become a point of reference in innovation and entrepreneurship – a place where businesses, students, faculty and members of the scientific community come together to identify opportunities and overcome challenges. The campus fosters collaboration in a number of areas, including business plans, projects and strategic consulting.
With the introduction of ESADECREAPOLIS – the world’s largest innovation centre dedicated to open and cross innovation – students in all of ESADE’s programmes now have a hands-on opportunity to acquire executive skills, leadership capacities and teamwork abilities. ESADECREAPOLIS is also home to an ESADE-UPC business incubator that, with the help of KIC InnoEnergy, has launched internationally recognised projects such as ParkGreen, Noem, Northstar Telemetrics, Enerbyte and WorldCoo.
The EGarage – named for the entrepreneurial garages of Palo Alto that spawned companies such as Hewlett-Packard and Apple – also acts as a springboard for ideas, projects and businesses developed by ESADE in conjunction with resident entrepreneurs. Spearheaded by the ESADE Entrepreneurship Institute, the EGarage boasts a “design thinking-oriented workspace where theory and practice come together in one place, plus an extension dedicated to interaction.
Created with the Bologna criteria in mind
From the beginning, ESADE’s Sant Cugat campus has implemented a wide variety of Bologna-adapted methodologies: compulsory exchange programmes at universities around the world, the use of English as the language of instruction, compulsory internships at companies, the assignment of small-group projects, case studies, and the fostering of multiculturalism.
The campus has a surface area of 41,776 m² (15,461 m² in the Academic Building, 2,667 m² in the MBA facility, 232 m² in the EGarage, 5,886 m² in the residence hall and 17,520 m² in ESADECREAPOLIS).
