ESADE launches its first MOOC on Coursera: a geopolitics course led by Javier Solana
Today in Bogotá, ESADE and Coursera announced a new partnership for the launch of a new online course on Geopolitics and Global Governance, to be led by ESADEgeo President Javier Solana. “This MOOC by ESADE offers a reflection – from a geostrategic and geopolitical viewpoint – on the basics of understanding today’s world: a multipolar world where there is a large degree of interdependence among states and non-state actors, commented Javier Solana, before adding that the course reflects his years of experience “as a practitioner, not a scholar, of political science. Dr. Solana noted that MOOCs (massive open online courses) are educational spaces that are accessible to many people. “The Internet has opened up infinite possibilities, inviting the curiosity of students the world over, he commented.
The course, designed by Homuork, will begin on Tuesday, 3rd November and run for five weeks. During this time, various ESADEgeo experts will explore the keys to understanding the world of the future, the opportunities that are presenting themselves, and the changes demanded by this global transformation.
Growing demand for MOOCs in Spanish
The launch of “Geopolitics and Global Governance: Challenges and Opportunities in Spanish is in line with Coursera’s new strategy. With more than 120 affiliated universities and 15 million registered users worldwide, Coursera is the world’s biggest platform for free online courses. The company aims to nearly triple the number of courses it offers in Spanish. ESADE will be one of Coursera’s key allies in this new stage. “We are delighted to be partnering with ESADE to offer this course, commented Daphne Koller, President and Co-founder of Coursera. “We hope it can reach hundreds of thousands of Spanish speakers worldwide, many of whom have never before had access to high-quality education from ESADE.
The objective of the course is to convey the urgency of creating institutions capable of managing the global risks that threaten us and, due to their inherent nature, can only be addressed from a global perspective. The various actors and the relationships among them constitute a complex field of play. Through debate and the exchange of ideas, the new MOOC aims to provide a more understandable vision for students as well as public and private actors who want to act at the global level, whether in the context of a company or at a public institution or international organisation.
