ESADE has awarded 262 scholarships to students with talent but without the necessary economic resources to be able to study there. This represents a major increase over the 218 scholarships awarded last academic year. The rise in grantholders goes hand in hand with greater investment in the Scholarship Programme, which has gone from €2.3 million to €2.8 million this year, a significant increase of half a million euros and a clear indication of the value ESADE attaches to talent in the classroom.

As Eugenia Bieto, Director General of ESADE, pointed out in the Scholarship Award Ceremony held on Tuesday 25 October, the value of private contributions to the Scholarship Programme is increasing proportionally every year: “Practically a million euros allocated to the Scholarship Programme comes from donations from businesses and individuals.” Thus, the ESADE Challenge for Talent campaign, launched in April 2012, is reaching the target set thanks to the 28 companies and more than 600 individuals who believe in talent and ESADE’s educational project.

During the Scholarship Award Ceremony, Futures Scholarship donor Maite Barrera gave an interesting talk in which she spoke to the students about four fundamental issues for success in their career: failure, ambition, hard work and generosity. She concluded her address with this rousing recommendation: “Be good and generous people. Never forget about other people or about ESADE; you have the great opportunity to give back to society and ESADE part of what you have received. This should be your goal; it will make you better people.” As representatives of the scholarship-holders, Mohamed Bouzagou, studying the Bachelor in Global Governance, and Jaume Sanz, a BBA student with a SEAT Scholarship, spoke of the importance of receiving a talent grant, a source of pride and at the same time commitment to the institution. Both of them invited their fellow students to work in favour of the Scholarship Programme from the classroom.

Futures Scholarships

Last academic year a new mode of collaboration with the Scholarships Programme was created whereby one person or family bears 90% of the cost of a student’s fees, with a commitment to do so throughout all four years of the degree. The relationship that is established between the donor and the scholarship-holder is very close, as it includes the possibility of mentoring. This year we already have five Futures Scholarships, thanks to the intense commitment of five ESADE alumni.
