Comillas-ICADE and ESADE Madrid Law Schools have joined forces to provide the Lawyering Programme, a fifteen-month double masters that allows participants to attain a Master in Legal Practice and a Master in Global Business Law or Master in Tax Consultancy. Both specialties respond to the rapid transformation of the legal professional – a result of globalisation – as experienced by lawyers specialising in international business law, now being asked to add greater value to transactions.

"The teaching of business law should begin with an overview of business and, as is the case with this double master, provide the experience and corporate legal debates that leaders in the profession encounter daily," said Enric R. Bartlett, Dean of ESADE Law School. Meanwhile, Iñigo Navarro, Dean of ICADE Law School, noted that, "a solid practical and international education is needed for this complex volatile and interconnected world, in order to equip professionals with the right tools to deal with the challenges thrown down by reality."

Comprehensive Programme
The ICADE-ESADE Lawyering Programme provides participants with solid legal and business knowledge in key sectors; leadership skills, negotiation and teamwork, and an awareness of their social responsibilities and ethical duties, enabling them to develop their careers as lawyers in legal departments within leading companies, major law firms and tax consultancy firms, and go on to become future leaders within their profession.

The ICADE-ESADE Lawyering Programme employs a highly practical methodology, based on active student learning, case studies, the Socratic method, professional procedure simulations and various educational tools based on legal practice, as well as individual study and group work, both in and out of the classroom.

Faculty members for the ICADE-ESADE Lawyering Programme, led by professors José M. Areilza (ESADE) and Federico Montalvo (Comillas-ICADE), include leading academics and practitioners of international business law. Classes, which are delivered at the respective Law Schools of both institutions in Madrid, will be held in Spanish (for the Master in Legal Practice and Masters in Tax Consultancy) and English (for the Master in Global Business Law).

A panel discussion was held during the presentation in which representatives from leading Spanish law firms and consultants analysed the position of legal professionals in the corporate value chain and the attributes that should be added to current training. Alumni from the two institutions participated in the event, entitled ‘Globalisation of legal services and the training of lawyers', including Luis de Carlos, Managing Partner of Uría Menéndez, Chantal Doncel, Director of the Legal Department at Rottapharm, Daniel Marín, Managing Partner of Gómez-Acebo & Pombo in Barcelona and Fernando Vives, Managing Partner of Garrigues.
