La crisis de la vivienda: respuestas y propuestas desde el Tercer Sector Social

The dossier “The Housing Crisis: Responses and Proposals from the Social Third Sector”, produced by the Decent Housing Observatory of the Esade’ Institute for Social Innovation at the request of and in collaboration with the Taula d’Entitats del Tercer Sector Social de Catalunya, as part of the Debat Catalunya Social series, analyzes the essential role of social organizations in tackling the housing emergency in Catalonia.

These organizations play a key role in the provision, management, and support in the field of housing. Through their action, they contribute to ensuring the right to decent housing for people in situations of vulnerability and risk of exclusion, while promoting the construction of a more inclusive, equal, and sustainable model.

The dossier pursues three main objectives. First, to highlight the role of the Social Third Sector as a promoter, manager, and supporter of social housing, and to emphasize its responsibility in guaranteeing the right to housing. Second, to gather the challenges and good practices faced by the sector, adopting a human-rights-based approach and rejecting the conception of housing as a market good. Finally, it offers a set of strategic proposals aimed at strengthening the response capacity of organizations and guiding the development of public policies.

With this analysis and the recommendations presented, the document positions the Social Third Sector as an agent of social and political transformation, capable of generating innovative and sustainable responses to inequality and the housing crisis.
