The 14th Annual Energy Meeting, held on 21 April 2026 in Madrid, brought together senior European policymakers, business leaders, and experts to discuss the intersection of energy policy, industrial competitiveness, and strategic security under the theme "Powering Europe's Future: Energy, Competitiveness and Security". The event was jointly organised by EsadeGeo and the Representation of the European Commission in Spain and featured a keynote address by Dan Jørgensen, European Commissioner for Energy and Housing.

In his intervention, Commissioner Jørgensen reflected on the profound transformation of Europe's energy landscape since the energy crisis triggered by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. He stressed that reducing Europe's dependence on imported fossil fuels is not only an environmental imperative but also a geopolitical and economic necessity. Highlighting the lessons learned from the 2022 energy crisis, he argued that accelerating the deployment of renewable energy, strengthening electricity networks, and advancing electrification are essential to enhancing Europe's energy security, competitiveness, and strategic autonomy.

The discussion also addressed the broader geopolitical context shaping European energy policy. As global tensions intensify and international energy markets become increasingly volatile, Jørgensen underlined the importance of building a more resilient and integrated European energy system capable of ensuring affordable energy while supporting industrial competitiveness and the clean transition. He emphasised that Europe's response to these challenges must combine investment, innovation, and deeper cooperation among Member States.

The conference was opened by Javier Solana, President of EsadeGeo's Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics, alongside Nikos Isaris, Deputy Head of the Representation of the European Commission in Spain. Following the keynote address, Commissioner Jørgensen participated in a discussion moderated by EsadeGeo Director Ángel Saz-Carranza, exploring the strategic choices facing Europe as it seeks to reconcile decarbonisation, industrial policy, and security objectives in an increasingly uncertain global environment. The event reaffirmed the central role of energy policy in shaping Europe's future prosperity, resilience, and geopolitical position.
