"The windows opened by a language look upon a unique landscape. Learning new languages is like entering as many new worlds."

George Steiner

Our history

Since its foundation, ESADE has understood that a good professional should be extremely competent in several languages. To ensure this was met, ESADE created its own language school, today called the “ESADE Language Center” (ELC). We quickly consolidated ourselves as a highly reputable leader in language learning not just in Barcelona but also across Europe.

Our mission

We help our students to develop their full potential to be able to communicate in different languages beyond borders and cultures.

How important are languages?

50 years ago, being able to communicate in another language was considered an added value in the job market. Today, it is a must, a fundamental requirement to be successful in an increasingly competitive and international setting. Companies and organisations no longer ask candidates to have a certain level of a given language. Candidates now have to have excellent communication skills and cultural competencies in several languages.

ESADE recruiters stress that mastering at least two languages (in addition to students’ own) is the most important competency when it comes to working in today’s 21st-century international business and legal firms: 95% consider this competency essential.

Our DNA

Language education: What do we strive to offer our students?

Good language education does not limit itself to merely transmitting knowledge. Our mission as educators focuses on the students’ holistic development as effective communicators, intercultural speakers and professionals but, especially, as committed and responsible people. The objective of the ESADE Language Center is to provide students all the possible options for them to play an active role in a learning process that is motivating, relevant and effective, with invaluable personalised assessment.

Who are we?

We are a team of 33 professors from different countries and backgrounds, united by our passion for teaching our respective languages. That is why we have become pedagogical and language teaching experts. We love to innovate and test new methodologies and class dynamics to help our students to successfully learn languages and develop the skills to be able to communicate effectively.

Our priority is for students to learn, develop their competencies and achieve their objectives.

What do we do?

We offer our experience and unique methodology to all ESADE students, from undergraduate programmes to the Full-Time MBA. We help them to take a significant leap forward in just a short time, creating relevant content adapted to each student profile and programme.

How do we do it?

As part of ESADE’s new “Student First” educational experience, we have created an active and innovative methodology to ensure that students are the protagonists of their own learning process and that they learn inside and outside the classroom. This methodology favours personalised learning, adapted to individual needs, while making the most of the time available.

The ELC’s new pedagogical model bases its educational experience on three pillars:

Individual learning: ATAWAD

(Anytime, anywhere, with any device):

Students advance at their own pace and rhythm and study as much as they need. They discover new information and begin to put it into practice before attending class. Later, they reflect on what they have learned and expand their critical thinking skills. They thus have more freedom, autonomy and flexibility to study when and where they want, improving their self-awareness and self-confidence as they progress.

Enriched in-class learning

Students learn together in the classroom, guided by the professor. Students are the stars of their own learning processes, and the professor is a group guide and expert to whom they can turn.

Learning through context

(On and off-site)

Our classes expose students to significant, motivating learning experiences: projects rooted in real life outside the classroom (Learning in Community), thematic workshops and intensive mini-group exercises focused on specific skills according to individual needs, all with personalised expert assessment.

We are gradually introducing this new pedagogical model into all ESADE language courses.
