Company bankruptcies and grants during the pandemic: how many and how

Twenty per cent of the companies operating on January 1st 2020 in Spain no longer existed a year later, a figure rising to 30% in the foodservice sector in general.

This trend is particularly pronounced in certain autonomous regions: the survival of companies in this sector is precarious in Andalusia (64.5%), the Balearic Islands (65.6%) and Extremadura (66%).

This and other results gleaned from an in-depth analysis of business by region and sector highlight the urgent need for grants to break out of the vicious circle of solvency and liquidity problems in the Spanish economy, with particular emphasis on small companies and sectors hit hard by the pandemic, especially in certain regions.
