Ecomesh wins 1st edition of KIC InnoEnergy Iberia Award
At the World Trade Center in Barcelona, KIC InnoEnergy presented the KIC InnoEnergy Iberia Award to the winner of the first edition of the competition: the start-up Ecomesh. Of the more than 25 Spanish start-ups that submitted innovative sustainable energy projects, six were chosen as finalists with a chance to win a prize valued at €15,000.
The award ceremony featured the participation of the entrepreneur Albert Bosch, who highlighted "the important role played by these initiatives, which, with KIC InnoEnergy’s support, represent innovation in the industry and are helping to shape our country’s future in the energy field". Mikel Lasa, CEO of KIC InnoEnergy Iberia, praised "the role played by entrepreneurs who have different approaches but share KIC InnoEnergy’s goal of energy sustainability".
New tools and applications in the energy of the future
The panel of judges that evaluated the finalists’ projects and presentations consisted of Mikel Lasa; Josep-Miquel Torregrosa, Business Creation Officer at KIC InnoEnergy Iberia; Oriol Pascual, Director of Enviu Barcelona; Jan Brinckmann, Associate Professor at ESADE; and Jordi Daunis, Judith Cruxent and Renato Braz, Business Creation Managers at KIC InnoEnergy Iberia.
The six finalists were as follows:
• Volta Smart Energy: Provider of domestic energy consumption management solutions via an online app.
• Métrica6: Creator of the “NESS solution, which uses information and smart tools to optimise the management of hot water consumption.
• Vortex Bladeless: Developer of bladeless wind power generation systems, which have no moving parts and produce more efficient, inexpensive, environmentally friendly wind power.
• ARI Solar: Designer and manufacturer of more efficient heliostats for solar thermal power plants.
• Biomival: Creator of a tidal energy conversion system that relies on biomimetic design
• Ecomesh (Endef): Designer and manufacturer of hybrid solar panels that use a combination of photovoltaic and thermal elements to achieve greater energy efficiency.
Ecomesh will receive €10,000 in cash plus a three-month stay at KIC InnoEnergy’s business incubator at ESADECREAPOLIS and six mentoring sessions with collaborators in ESADE’s network.
