ESADE’s General Secretary, Dr. Enrique López Viguria, was named Doctor Honoris Causa by Universidad Católica de Córdoba at the petition of its business school, ICDA, during a ceremony held on August 23rd. The General Secretary was duly recognised for his merits and, in particular, his PhD thesis on the Society of Jesus’ university mission and its business schools.

In his speech, Dr. López Viguria thanked the university for this honour and proposed “reflecting on how we educate tomorrow’s leaders. […] There’s still time to hear and react to the radical warning that inequality and injustice represent. We all have to take part,” underscoring that, “universities and especially Jesuit universities have great responsibility in this respect”. To achieve this, he stressed the need to implement educational models that train people to be competent, compassionate, conscious and committed. He referred to them as “contributory people, people whose contributions extend beyond themselves from the outset, people whose leadership rests entirely on their ability to serve”.

For his part, the Universidad Católica de Córdoba (UCC) Rector, Alfonso José Gómez, SJ, talked about the shared opportunities, risks and challenges that society faces as well as the important educational role that business schools play. He also expressed his gratitude to Dr. López Viguria for clearly defending “the need to find new paths, means and motivations to unify criteria throughout the different business school management levels”.

Dr. Enrique López Viguria was granted this Doctor Honoris Causa as part of the ceremony commemorating ICDA’s fiftieth anniversary and included participation by its Director, Alejandro Bernhardt. Numerous UCC vice-rectors, other academic authorities and members and friends of the UCC community also attended.
