From 27th February to 2nd March, ESADE will be taking its campus to the Mobile World Congress (MWC). As the largest event of its type worldwide, the MWC will bring together in Barcelona the industry’s most important companies and professionals. Over a three-day period, ESADE students will have the chance to attend classes, make direct contact with the companies and entrepreneurs participating in the MWC, and take part in activities organised at the 4 Years From Now (4YFN) entrepreneurship fair. With this pioneering educational experience, organised with the support of Banco Santander, ESADE will become the first business school to teach classes at the MWC.

“This initiative forms part of ESADE’s new educational model, Student First, which aims to address the challenges of globalisation and digitisation,” commented Eugenia Bieto, Director General of ESADE Business & Law School. “At ESADE, we are currently in the process of reinventing our educational model. We are committed to learning through experience and direct contact with the reality of the future global economy.”

At the event, ESADE will have a 160 m² space with room for a hundred people. The school will therefore be able to teach classes and host initiatives for the entrepreneurial community at sessions focusing on three major topics: entrepreneurship, innovation and digital business.

350 students and international sessions

Marketing for entrepreneurs, financial entrepreneurship, design thinking, retail digital transformation and digital business will be some of the subjects taught at ESADE’s space at 4YFN-MWC. A total of 350 students – most of them international, in programmes such as the Master in Innovation and Entrepreneurship, the Master in International Management (MIM) and the Full-Time Master in Business Administration (MBA) – will participate in the school’s activities.

Under the banner of “ESADE Talk”, the school will also offer a series of lectures, gatherings and meetings that will be open to the public. At these events, ESADE faculty members will share their knowledge about strategy in digital environments, cognitive computing and pricing.

During the three days that ESADE will move its classrooms to the MWC, several entrepreneurs will showcase their developments and proposals at the school’s stand. These guest entrepreneurs will include Inflight VR, a business project launched by an ESADE graduate that revolves around virtual reality glasses for the entertainment industry, and Unblur, a drone-based emergency services project created by another ESADE alumnus. In addition, ESADE will present its initiatives in educational innovation, entrepreneurship and other fields.

Blockchain: topic of debate at 4YFN

At the 4YFN digital entrepreneurship fair, ESADE will host one of the main panel discussions, on the topic of blockchain technology. The panel will be moderated by Luis Vives, Associate Dean of the Full-Time MBA and Associate Professor in the Department of Strategy and General Management at ESADE. This session will feature the participation of Brock Pierce, one of the world’s leading experts on blockchain technology, Director of the Bitcoin Foundation, and co-founder and Managing Partner at Blockchain Capital, as well as Vicenç Martí, President of Tangelo Games and President of Billy Mobile.

Academic agreement with Mobile World Capital Barcelona

Also during MWC 2017, ESADE will teach a course entitled “The Digital Transformation in Retail”. The academic institution recently signed an agreement with Mobile World Capital Barcelona to jointly launch the course as part of ESADE’s Going Digital programme. The course will offer the keys and models for retailers to better understand the digital transformation as well as existing digital point-of-sale solutions.

ESADE’s participation in this international event is a signal of the school’s commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship. The school will once again have a presence at both the 4YFN entrepreneurship fair and the MWC, which in 2017 is organised around theme of “Mobile: The Next Element” and is expected to draw more than 100,000 visitors from all over the world.
