  • THE CTLS IS AN INNOVATIVE INITIATIVE INSPIRED BY THE GLOBALISATION OF THE LEGAL WORLD. IT AIMS TO SERVE AS A GLOBALISED CAMPUS, WITH FACULTY AND STUDENTS FROM THE WORLD'S BEST LAW SCHOOLS, SPECIALISING IN INTERNATIONAL, TRANSNATIONAL AND COMPARATIVE LAW.

The Full-time Master in International Business Law offers students the opportunity to spend a semester abroad at the Center for Transnational Legal Studies (CTLS).

ESADE Law School is a founding member of the Center for Transnational Legal Studies. Under the leadership of Georgetown University Law Center, the CTLS opened its doors in the legal and financial heart of London in 2008-2009. In addition to ESADE Law School, nine other leading law schools from all over the world are participating in this initiative: Free University of Berlin, the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, King's College of London, the University of Melbourne, the National University of Singapore, the University of São Paulo, the University of Turin and the University of Toronto.


The CTLS applies innovative teaching techniques to train lawyers and jurists with a clear global and/or transnational focus. Jurists of the 21st century need to be able comprehend diversity and get along in a world made up of various legal traditions. The job market, aware of globalisation, requires jurists with a highly developed international outlook. Global lawyers are the lawyers of the future, and the CTLS's basic goal is to train them.
Each participating law school sends one or two faculty members and between five and ten students to the CTLS per semester. The classes bring together important legal experts and professionals, renowned faculty members, and students from different legal traditions. The result is a diverse classroom with a broad perspective. Both the common law and civil law systems are discussed.

. Each academic year consists of two semesters.
. Intensive seminar: Each semester will begin with an intensive seminar in comparative and/or transnational law focusing on an important current-affairs topic. The seminar is compulsory for all students and faculty.
. Compulsory subject: Transnational Legal Theory.
. Elective credits: Each student may choose 10 credits from among a wide variety of subjects.
. Transnational Law Colloquiums: Each week, students attend colloquiums on various international current-affairs topics of interest to the comparative and/or transnational law fields.
. Research project: Students' academic activity culminates with a high-level research project of great utility.


Three ESADE Law School students take part in a pioneering transnational law course in London

Isabel Conde, Lourdes Peris and Alejandro de Muller, three ESADE-URL Law School students, took part in a six-month course on transnational law in London, where they learned more about the different legal systems and where they've also had time to relax and enjoy themselves.
