ESADE Law School Lecturer Patricia Saiz appointed to the International Court of Arbitration

The World Council of the International Chamber of Commerce has appointed Patricia Saiz, Lecturer in the Department of Private Law at ESADE Law School, to a three-year term as a member of the International Court of Arbitration. Ms. Saiz is an alumna of ESADE’s Bachelor in Law and Master in Business Law and an expert in international arbitration.

As part of the International Chamber of Commerce, the International Court of Arbitration is responsible for administering ICC arbitrations and is the best-known arbitral institution at the international level. Since its creation in 1923, the Court has been a pioneer in promoting arbitration as the preferred method for resolving cross-border disputes. The Court consists of 176 members from 104 countries, with two members representing Spain.

Expert in international arbitration

Ms. Saiz is an expert in international arbitration with a long track record in the legal sector. She has served as an arbitrator in international processes and worked as a lawyer in the United States for more than ten years. She has practiced law in New York and Washington, D.C. as well as in Spain. Ms. Saiz was a recipient of the leading law magazine Iberian Lawyer’s40 Under Forty” award, which each year recognises the leadership and excellence of 40 Spanish and Portuguese lawyers under 40 years of age.

Ms. Saiz’s other accomplishments include representing the government of Hungary and assisting the Canadian government in negotiations for the Softwood Lumber Agreement. She has also represented various multinationals faced with expropriation by Latin American governments and represented Lehman Brothers at the time of the firm’s bankruptcy.
