This annual Conference will have 3 events: Round Table "Key factors for integrating CSR into business strategy" , Presentation of the study "Observatorio 2008 de la Inversión Socialmente Responsable" , and Round Table "Future trends in corporate social action".
This Annual Conference was presented and moderated by: Ignasi Carreras, Institute for Social Innovation Director
and had participated: Itziar Castelló , Institute for Social Innovation researcher Xavier Carbonell, Director of the Department of Social Responsibility at Mango Angel Pes, Deputy General Manager of Corporate Responsibility and Branding at "La Caixa" Laura Albareda, Institute for Social Innovation researcher Lourdes Urriolagoitia, Institute for Social Innovation researcher Esther Trujillo, Vice-President of Sustainable Development at Sol Melià David Camps,Fundraising Manager de Intermon Oxfam
Ignasi Carreras has announced that, in terms of CSR, the crisis will affect businesses in different ways and that firms which have so far developed CSR as a "fad" will be most affected. In contrast, in companies where CSR is developed intrinsically, the crisis "will be an opportunity for companies to stand out above the competition and regain the confidence of consumers and shareholders alike".
Referring to the study on "Emerging trends in corporate social action", based on an analysis of eight companies (Acciona, Abertis, BBVA, Ferrovial, Inditex, Mapfre, Repsol YPF and Telefónica), Carreras concluded that six requirements are necessary to produce social impact in favour of companies, and that these requirements should be followed in order to manage social action well: alignment, focus, being actors, collaboration, senior management involvement and formalisation. The companies studied considered it essential to have a strategic and specialised partner and they have changed their donor-recipient approach to one in which they work with third sector institutions, and collaborate directly in managing the project.

Presentation of the study "Observatorio 2008 de la ISR"
November 13th, 2008, ESADEFORUM Madrid
In this event had participated: Ignasi Carreras, Institute for Social Innovation Director Antonio Ballabriga, BBVA Director of Corporate Responsability and Reputation Laura Albareda, Institute for Social Innovation researcher Daniel Arenas, Institute for Social Innovation research coordinator Álvaro Elices, Asset Management BBVA Director. Gestora del BBVA Luís Peña Kaiser, CEO, Fonditel Pensions, EGFP, SA. Carlos Bravo, CC.OO. Joint Head of the Pension Plans and Funds Area
According to the study "2008 Observatory on Socially Responsible Investment (SRI)", responsible investment continues to be marginal in Spain. Whereas international financial markets have seen significant growth in SRI, Spain has shown the opposite trend. This year, funds managed according to SRI criteria account for just 0.3% of all capital invested in Spain, compared to 0.48% for the previous year. Of the 19 Spanish SRI funds, seven (37%) are currently turning a profit. This figure provides some cause for optimism, since of the nearly 100 categories of funds in Spain, just 20% have managed to remain profitable. "These data prove that, during a crisis, SRI funds are more profitable than traditional funds," said the authors of the study. Institutional investors such as pension funds are likely to become a large part of the growth of responsible investment. Mr. Carreras called for the Spanish government to become the largest institutional investor by managing its Social Security Reserve Fund according to sustainable criteria.

One of the most relevant conclusions to be drawn from the Corporate Reputation Conference is that a company's reputation will be one of its major assets in terms of emerging from the current crisis. Until now, protecting the natural environment has been a key concern of corporate stakeholders. However, experts now believe that "quality jobs will take on more importance in the wake of the economic crisis".
