ESADE increases its number of Chinese students by 30% compared to the previous academic year and launches its new website aimed at China
January 4, 2012
With an average annual 10% growth since 2001, China shows the greatest economic growth in the world. After the United States, it is already the second global economy and has a development capacity that is going to define business on a global scale. Furthermore, its more than 1,350 million inhabitants are a highly attractive market for businesses around the world. A growing number of business managers are working or investing in this country, and there is also a growing number of Chinese citizens interested in studying in business schools around the world; evident in the number of Chinese students studying in ESADE, which has increased by 30 % compared to the previous year —it now stands at around 40 students—, and it has not stopped growing in recent years.
It is for this reason that one of ESADE’s aims for 2012 is to forge closer ties with this country, in order to be able to cover both the demand and the needs of the current and future business mangers of western countries as well as the potential Asian students interested in the global and excellent training that the ESADE Business School can offer them.
In relation to this, Zhu Bangzao, ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Spain, visited ESADE and took part in China Day, a conference on China’s culture, arts and economy organised by the ESADE community. The ambassador met with some of the 40 Chinese students currently studying at the business school and launched the new website ESADE has created to draw closer to this country.
More students year after year
As ESADE’s interest in China grows, so too does China’s interest in ESADE. The number of Chinese students studying at the business school has grown exponentially during the last decade. For the academic year 2001-2002, there were only 4 Chinese students at ESADE, while today there are 39. Thus in the last 10 years the number of students from China in ESADE has grown by 89 %; in the last five years by 69%; in the last three by 46 %, and this year by 30 % in relation to the 27 Chinese students that studied in ESADE during the previous academic year.
ESADE now has 180 Chinese alumni who have studied here in the last 10 years, but in addition to them there are 103 alumni that live or work in the People’s Republic of China, of which 70 are Chinese born. ESADE Alumni has two chapters in the region: Greater China and Chapter Taiwan, which offer advice, training and support, through meetings, events and conferences, for the businesses this network of professionals develops in China.
ESADE addresses China through the Internet
The new ESADE web site, launched by the Chinese Ambassador Zhu Bangzao, is aimed at families and businesses in China interested in the education offered by this prestigious Business School, which they can trust for their sons and daughters, as well as for their employees. It consists of a new portal customised to meet the particular requirements and needs of its users, rather than being a translation of an existing website. The portal, written in Simplified Mandarin, compiles the most relevant information about the Business School placing a special emphasis on its tradition and its history of over 53 years.
It also includes the most important rankings, so as to be able to place the school among the world leading business schools and compare it with other important institutions in Europe, the United States or China itself. It also provides practical information of a social, cultural and economic nature, which contextualizes the school in Spain and Barcelona. In addition, one can watch video testimonies in which the various Chinese ESADE students explain in an informal way their experience at the school and the city, the facilities to study English in depth as well as Spanish, useful for daily life in Barcelona.
