Frequent questions about the Executive MBA (EMBA)

1. How long is the Executive MBA programme and what is its schedule?

  • The programme in Barcelona and Madrid lasts 18 months and is held on Friday throughout the day (9am to 8.30pm) and Saturday mornings (9am to 2pm) alternate weekends. It starts in January each year.

2. What are the admission requirements?

  • University degree (bachelors or equivalent)
  • A minimum of five years' full-time professional experience
  • Candidates should be in employment while attending the programme
  • Letter of support from your company
  • All candidates should sit the ESADE or GMAT Admissions Test
    ESADE will only accept official GMAT grades sent directly by ETS
  • All participants should have a good level of Business English (TOEFL 230 CBT or Advanced Cambridge Certificate in English or ESADE language test)
    If you have extensive experience of working, studying or living in an English-speaking country, you may be exempted from the English test requirement. Please consult the MBA Admissions Department.
  • ESADE will only accept official TOEFL grades sent directly to ESADE by ETS. Cambridge Certificates must be originals or official copies, and the exam should have been taken less than two years before the ESADE application date.

3. How does the Admissions Process work?

ESADE will accept applications for admission to the programme beginning in January between February and December of the preceding year. Once the application has been completed (including the ESADE or GMAT / TOEFL Admissions Test), a process of personal interviews will follow before all the candidate's details are finally passed on to the Admissions Committee. The length of the process is approximately one month following completion of the dossier. Candidates will be informed of the Committee's decision by email or via messenger.

4. What factors does the Committee take into account?

All elements of your application are important. The Admissions Committee analyses your student's record (transcript), work experience, the results of the Admissions Test, etc.

5. How does the ESADE Admissions Test work?

The ESADE Admissions Test has a format similar to GMAT, but is in Spanish. For more information on the ESADE test go to www.mba.com 

The ESADE Admissions Test is held in Barcelona and Madrid several times throughout the year, in addition to once a year in several cities throughout Latin America. If you have missed the deadline for submitting applications to sit the test in your country, you can always sit the test in Spain or, alternatively, take the GMAT. Consult www.esade.edu for a list of cities and dates for sitting ESADE Admissions Tests.

To be eligible to sit the test, you need to have made the registration fee payment and have sent your Admission Application Form to ESADE at least one week before the test date. In the event of sitting the ESADE test, it is very important to specify the date and place of your choice on your application.

6. How much does the ESADE Executive MBA Programme cost and how is payment made up?

  • The price of the programme beginning in Barcelona and Madrid in January 2009 is 55,900 euros.

7. Do I have to be working in Barcelona or Madrid to apply?


You have to be working to apply to the Executive MBA, whether that means working in Madrid, Barcelona or elsewhere.

Does ESADE offer distance learning?

The only distance-learning programme offered is the Executive Master in Marketing and Sales (EMMS). The programme is 50% distance learning and 50% attendance. This programme, offered jointly with Bocconi, is delivered entirely in English.
