Culminating an international professional selection process that began several months ago, the ESADE Board of Trustees has unanimously agreed to initiate the procedure to appoint Koldo Echebarría as the institution’s new Director General, replacing Eugenia Bieto, who has occupied the post since 2010. The procedure envisaged by the ESADE Statute requires prior consultation with the institution’s faculty and governing council. The proposal is expected to be ratified at a meeting of the ESADE Board of Trustees to be held in mid-July.

Koldo Echebarría, PhD in Law with a diploma in European Studies from the University of Deusto, has spent much of his career at the Inter-American Development Bank (IADB). Based in Washington, D.C., he served as General Manager and Head of Development Effectiveness from 2007 to 2013 and as Country Representative in Chile from 2005 to 2007 and again from 2013 to 2016. In his current position as Country Representative in Haiti, he is leading the IADB-financed reconstruction programmes in that country.

Dr. Echebarría taught in the Department of Strategy and General Management at ESADE for eight years and has since maintained close ties with the institution as a visiting professor. He has also been a visiting professor at Georgetown University, the College of Europe in Bruges and the University of Chile.
