Biography
Hasan is a postdoctoral research fellow at Esade Business School with extensive expertise in energy and carbon finance, business model development for emerging low-carbon technologies and energy and environmental economics.

Hasan has a multinational background with an academic career spanning multiple disciplines. He holds a PhD and MSc in Carbon Finance from the University of Edinburgh and an MSc in Oceanography from the University of Southampton, on the back of a BSc in Biology with focus on marine sciences. In recent years, Hasan's research focused on building financial cases for clean energy projects, in particular wave energy, offshore wind energy, and carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies in the UK and China. Hasan's PhD thesis focused on designing innovative business models for emerging low-carbon technologies in the steel sector. His most recent work appraises the market potential for negative emissions technologies, namely Direct Air Capture (DAC) and waste-to-energy (WtE) with CCS technologies.

At ESADE, Hasan is assisting in the delivery of an EU-funded Horizon2020 project, EU-SysFlex, which, in partnership with a number of high-profile energy stakeholders in Europe, investigates the technical challenges created by the increasing share of renewables in the European energy mix, where he seeks to identify and enable business models and commercial solutions for these challenges.

Hasan has previously taken up roles as a market analyst (Aquamarine Power, UK), CCS market analyst (UK-China CCUS Centre in Guangdong, China), and researcher on a BHP-funded CCS Industrial Project at the University of Edinburgh Business School. He also served as a Teaching Fellow at the University of Edinburgh Business School, delivering postgraduate courses on Energy Finance and Policy, and Energy and Environmental Markets, and as a guest lecturer on other carbon-related courses. He has also secured a number of partnership grants with international academic institutions, including the Low-Carbon College at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, and the University of Waterloo, Canada. He is further a member of various academic organisations such as BIEE, IAEE, and EARE.
