Biography
Eero Kasanen served as Rector of the Helsinki School of Economics for 14 years, then
half a year as Dean of the Aalto University School of Economics. He is now on sabbatical,
getting back to the world of research, and wondering what to do if he grows up.
Kasanen has served as the Chairman of the Board of Itella, the national mail company
of Finland, and as a board member at several other companies. As a result, he has
has cultivated an experience and interest in issues such as governance, ethics, incentives
and financial strategy.
His educational background includes degrees in mathematics and philosophy from the
University of Turku, a degree in natural resource economics from the Turku School
of Economics and a degree in managerial economics from Harvard Business School.
In academic research, Kasanen has published on financial ethics, earnings management,
real options, financial reporting, dynamics of natural resource utilisation and the
history of mathematics. He is a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters.
