{"id":4118,"date":"2021-03-25T06:13:10","date_gmt":"2021-03-25T05:13:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/webecpol.esade.edu\/publicaciones\/polarizacion-afectiva\/"},"modified":"2021-04-09T17:57:05","modified_gmt":"2021-04-09T15:57:05","slug":"polarisation-spain-2","status":"publish","type":"publicaciones","link":"http:\/\/webecpol.esade.edu\/en\/publications\/polarisation-spain-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Attitude polarisation in Spain: ideological groups at loggerheads"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Attitude polarisation (defined as the emotional gap between a person\u2019s affection for others with the same political ideologies and their rejection of those with different opinions) negatively impacts the smooth running of our democracies because it:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>impairs cooperation between citizens<\/li>\n<li>affects trust in institutions<\/li>\n<li>reduces the legitimacy of governments<\/li>\n<li>causes mistrust and rejection among political adversaries and can even bring institutions to a halt.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ultimately, attitude polarisation creates a climate of opinion that facilitates poor governance.<\/p>\n<p>Attitude polarisation in Spain today is greater than two decades ago: the difference in the likelihood of voting for the party actually voted for and other parties (weighted by size) has increased by 50% (from 5.3 to 7.8 on a scale of 1 to 10).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Attitude polarisation .negatively impacts the smooth running of our democracies.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":4111,"template":"","yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.9 -
