This policy insight argues that it is necessary to accurately\u00a0<strong>identify the trends that were taking place before the arrival of the pandemic<\/strong>\u00a0to understand its potential political consequences.<\/li>\n<li>Rather than making general predictions about the impact of the virus,\u00a0<strong>we suggest key questions focused on the profound political transformations\u00a0<\/strong>that Europe was already experiencing at all levels.<\/li>\n<li>On the national level,\u00a0<strong>the main issue is to what extent the pandemic will affect the major political realignments<\/strong>\u00a0that were taking place in political party systems.<\/li>\n<li>As for the European Union (EU), the key question is not so much whether there will be more or less integration, but\u00a0<strong>the speed and scope of such process<\/strong>, and its consequences for the battle between pro-European and Eurosceptic forces.<\/li>\n<li>The most important unknown regarding geopolitics is\u00a0<strong>how Covid-19 will affect Europe&#8217;s ability to adapt to the increasing competition<\/strong>\u00a0among global powers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>What will be the impact of the coronavirus on European (geo)politics?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":955,"template":"","yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v22.9 -
