For more than fifteen years, every six months Esade has published the Informe Econ\u00f3mico y Financiero (Economic and Financial Report) with the support of Banco Sabadell. With this report, Esade seeks to stay true to its mission and contribute to society with what it does best, providing knowledge to improve public debate. The Report thus aims to offer a snapshot of the global and Spanish economic landscape and, in each edition, focuses on an issue of particular relevance to current economic affairs. This 32nd edition includes an analysis of the current situation and trends of the Spanish and international economy and in-depth articles on the main geopolitical risks that will concern markets in 2023.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Toni Rold\u00e1n, director of the Informe Econ\u00f3mico y Financiero, takes stock of the forecasts for 2023 and sets out the main vulnerabilities for the coming months in his welcome article. This is followed by the analysis of the international economic situation by Josep Comajuncosa, associate professor in Esade’s Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting. Comajuncosa warns that, although a prolonged recession can probably be avoided, financial conditions remain tight and certain risks persist, which could cause problems with systemic implications in the event of a greater economic deterioration than expected. Second, Manuel Hidalgo, professor of Economics at Pablo de Olavide University, senior fellow<\/em> at EsadeEcPol and co-director of the NextGenEU Observatory, paints a better picture for the Spanish economy than was forecast just a few months ago.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In the debate section, the authors address the global geopolitical situation from different perspectives. First, Javier Solana and \u00c1ngel Saz, president and director, respectively, of the Center for Global Economy and Geopolitics EsadeGeo, write about today’s worrying geopolitical dynamics and their implications for (de)globalisation. Mij Rahman, MD Europe at Eurasia Group and senior research fellow<\/em> at the LSE European Institute, writes about the main political risks in Europe. He is followed by Samantha Gross, director of the Energy Security and Climate Initiative at the Brookings Institution, who analyses the geopolitics of the energy transition. Next, Yu Jie, senior research fellow<\/em> on China in the Asia-Pacific Programme at Chatham House and associate fellow at LSE IDEAS, writes about the difficult balance between China’s domestic challenges and its global aspirations. Finally, Calin Arcalean, associate professor in Esade’s Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting, describes the evolution of global value chains and analyses the medium- and long-term pressures they face.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
