In <\/span><span id=\"E417\">Spain<\/span><span id=\"E419\">, <\/span><span id=\"E421\">the<\/span><span id=\"E423\"> <\/span><span id=\"E425\">teaching<\/span><span id=\"E427\"> <\/span><span id=\"E429\">profession<\/span><span id=\"E431\"> <\/span><span id=\"E433\">is<\/span><span id=\"E435\"> at a <\/span><span id=\"E437\">critical<\/span><span id=\"E439\"> <\/span><span id=\"E441\">juncture<\/span><span id=\"E443\">, <\/span><span id=\"E445\">shaping<\/span><span id=\"E447\"> <\/span><span id=\"E449\">education<\/span><span id=\"E451\"> <\/span><span id=\"E453\">for<\/span><span id=\"E455\"> <\/span><span id=\"E457\">the<\/span><span id=\"E459\"> <\/span><span id=\"E461\">coming<\/span><span id=\"E463\"> <\/span><span id=\"E465\">decades<\/span><span id=\"E467\">. <\/span><span id=\"E469\">Recent<\/span><span id=\"E471\"> data show <\/span><span id=\"E473\">an<\/span><span id=\"E475\"> <\/span><span id=\"E477\">increase<\/span><span id=\"E479\"> in fatigue, <\/span><span id=\"E481\">feelings<\/span><span id=\"E483\"> <\/span><span id=\"E485\">of<\/span><span id=\"E487\"> <\/span><span id=\"E489\">isolation<\/span><span id=\"E491\">, and <\/span><span id=\"E493\">dissatisfaction<\/span><span id=\"E495\"> <\/span><span id=\"E497\">among<\/span><span id=\"E499\"> a <\/span><span id=\"E501\">portion<\/span><span id=\"E503\"> <\/span><span id=\"E505\">of<\/span><span id=\"E507\"> <\/span><span id=\"E509\">teachers<\/span><span id=\"E511\">. <\/span><span id=\"E513\">This<\/span><span id=\"E515\"> <\/span><span id=\"E517\">report<\/span><span id=\"E519\"> explores <\/span><span id=\"E521\">the<\/span><span id=\"E523\"> <\/span><span id=\"E525\">state<\/span><span id=\"E527\"> <\/span><span id=\"E529\">of<\/span><span id=\"E531\"> <\/span><span id=\"E533\">the<\/span><span id=\"E535\"> <\/span><span id=\"E537\">teaching <\/span><span id=\"E539\"><\/span><span id=\"E541\">profession<\/span><span id=\"E543\"> in <\/span><span id=\"E545\">Spain<\/span><span id=\"E547\"> <\/span><span id=\"E549\">over<\/span><span id=\"E551\"> <\/span><span id=\"E553\">the<\/span><span id=\"E555\"> <\/span><span id=\"E557\">past<\/span><span id=\"E559\"> 25 <\/span><span id=\"E561\">years<\/span><span id=\"E563\">. <\/span><span id=\"E565\">Using<\/span><span id=\"E567\"> <\/span><span id=\"E569\">updated<\/span><span id=\"E571\"> data <\/span><span id=\"E573\">from<\/span><span id=\"E575\"> <\/span><span id=\"E577\">national<\/span><span id=\"E579\"> and <\/span><span id=\"E581\">international<\/span><span id=\"E583\"> <\/span><span id=\"E585\">surveys<\/span><span id=\"E587\">, <\/span><span id=\"E589\">it<\/span><span id=\"E591\"> examines <\/span><span id=\"E593\">the<\/span><span id=\"E595\"> <\/span><span id=\"E597\">worsening<\/span><span id=\"E599\"> social <\/span><span id=\"E601\">conditions<\/span><span id=\"E603\"> <\/span><span id=\"E605\">of<\/span><span id=\"E607\"> <\/span><span id=\"E609\">students<\/span><span id=\"E611\">, <\/span><span id=\"E613\">the<\/span><span id=\"E615\"> <\/span><span id=\"E617\">evolution<\/span><span id=\"E619\"> <\/span><span id=\"E621\">of<\/span><span id=\"E623\"> <\/span><span id=\"E625\">teachers<\/span><span id=\"E627\">&#8216; <\/span><span id=\"E629\">working<\/span><span id=\"E631\"> <\/span><span id=\"E633\">conditions<\/span><span id=\"E635\">, and <\/span><span id=\"E637\">the<\/span><span id=\"E639\"> <\/span><span id=\"E641\">difficulties<\/span><span id=\"E643\"> <\/span><span id=\"E645\">faced<\/span><span id=\"E647\"> <\/span><span id=\"E649\">by<\/span><span id=\"E651\"> <\/span><span id=\"E653\">the<\/span><span id=\"E655\"> <\/span><span id=\"E657\">education<\/span><span id=\"E659\"> <\/span><span id=\"E661\">system<\/span><span id=\"E663\"> in <\/span><span id=\"E665\">attracting<\/span><span id=\"E667\">, <\/span><span id=\"E669\">supporting<\/span><span id=\"E671\">, and <\/span><span id=\"E673\">fostering<\/span><span id=\"E675\"> <\/span><span id=\"E677\">professional<\/span><span id=\"E679\"> <\/span><span id=\"E681\">development<\/span><span id=\"E683\"> <\/span><span id=\"E685\">among<\/span><span id=\"E687\"> <\/span><span id=\"E689\">talented<\/span><span id=\"E691\"> <\/span><span id=\"E693\">teachers<\/span><span id=\"E695\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p id=\"E242\" class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\"><span id=\"E699\">The<\/span><span id=\"E701\"> <\/span><span id=\"E703\">growing<\/span><span id=\"E705\"> <\/span><span id=\"E707\">complexity<\/span><span id=\"E709\"> <\/span><span id=\"E711\">of<\/span><span id=\"E713\"> <\/span><span id=\"E715\">student<\/span><span id=\"E717\"> <\/span><span id=\"E719\">populations<\/span><span id=\"E721\"> <\/span><span id=\"E723\">is<\/span><span id=\"E725\"> a real <\/span><span id=\"E727\">phenomenon<\/span><span id=\"E729\"> <\/span><span id=\"E731\">explained<\/span><span id=\"E733\"> <\/span><span id=\"E735\">by<\/span><span id=\"E737\"> <\/span><span id=\"E739\">various<\/span><span id=\"E741\"> <\/span><span id=\"E743\">reasons<\/span><span id=\"E745\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E244\" class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\"><span id=\"E245\">\u2192 <span id=\"E748\">Child <\/span><span id=\"E750\">poverty<\/span><span id=\"E752\"> has <\/span><span id=\"E754\">risen<\/span><span id=\"E756\"> <\/span><span id=\"E758\">by<\/span><span id=\"E760\"> 5 <\/span><span id=\"E762\">percentage<\/span><span id=\"E764\"> <\/span><span id=\"E766\">points<\/span><span id=\"E768\"> <\/span><span id=\"E770\">since<\/span><span id=\"E772\"> 2018, <\/span><span id=\"E774\">while<\/span><span id=\"E776\"> <\/span><span id=\"E778\">overall<\/span><span id=\"E780\"> <\/span><span id=\"E782\">population<\/span><span id=\"E784\"> <\/span><span id=\"E786\">poverty<\/span><span id=\"E788\"> has <\/span><span id=\"E790\">declined<\/span><span id=\"E792\"> and <\/span><span id=\"E794\">the<\/span><span id=\"E796\"> <\/span><span id=\"E798\">economy<\/span><span id=\"E800\"> has <\/span><span id=\"E802\">grown<\/span><span id=\"E804\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E246\" class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\"><span id=\"E247\">\u2192 <span id=\"E808\">The<\/span><span id=\"E810\"> <\/span><span id=\"E812\">proportion<\/span><span id=\"E814\"> <\/span><span id=\"E816\">of<\/span><span id=\"E818\"> <\/span><span id=\"E820\">students<\/span><span id=\"E822\"> <\/span><span id=\"E824\">with<\/span><span id=\"E826\"> <\/span><span id=\"E828\">migrant<\/span><span id=\"E830\"> <\/span><span id=\"E832\">backgrounds<\/span><span id=\"E834\"> has <\/span><span id=\"E836\">significantly<\/span><span id=\"E838\"> <\/span><span id=\"E840\">increased<\/span><span id=\"E842\">, <\/span><span id=\"E844\">reaching<\/span><span id=\"E846\"> 32% in <\/span><span id=\"E848\">fourth<\/span><span id=\"E850\"> grade <\/span><span id=\"E852\">of<\/span><span id=\"E854\"> <\/span><span id=\"E856\">primary<\/span><span id=\"E858\"> <\/span><span id=\"E860\">school<\/span><span id=\"E862\"> in 2023.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E248\" class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\"><span id=\"E249\">\u2192 <span id=\"E864\">A crisis in <\/span><span id=\"E866\">well-being<\/span><span id=\"E868\"> and mental <\/span><span id=\"E870\">health<\/span><span id=\"E872\"> <\/span><span id=\"E874\">is<\/span><span id=\"E876\"> <\/span><span id=\"E878\">also<\/span><span id=\"E880\"> notable, <\/span><span id=\"E882\">with<\/span><span id=\"E884\"> <\/span><span id=\"E886\">an<\/span><span id=\"E888\"> <\/span><span id=\"E890\">increase<\/span><span id=\"E892\"> <\/span><span id=\"E894\">from<\/span><span id=\"E896\"> 11% <\/span><span id=\"E898\">to<\/span><span id=\"E900\"> 20% <\/span><span id=\"E902\">between<\/span><span id=\"E904\"> 2018 and 2022 <\/span><span id=\"E906\">of<\/span><span id=\"E908\"> 15-year-olds <\/span><span id=\"E910\">experiencing<\/span><span id=\"E912\"> <\/span><span id=\"E914\">anxiety<\/span><span id=\"E916\"> <\/span><span id=\"E918\">weekly<\/span><span id=\"E920\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E250\" class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\"><span id=\"E251\">\u2192 <span id=\"E924\">The<\/span><span id=\"E926\"> <\/span><span id=\"E928\">classroom<\/span><span id=\"E930\"> <\/span><span id=\"E932\">learning<\/span><span id=\"E934\"> <\/span><span id=\"E936\">climate<\/span><span id=\"E938\"> has <\/span><span id=\"E940\">also<\/span><span id=\"E942\"> <\/span><span id=\"E944\">deteriorated<\/span><span id=\"E946\"> in <\/span><span id=\"E948\">both<\/span><span id=\"E950\"> <\/span><span id=\"E952\">primary<\/span><span id=\"E954\"> and <\/span><span id=\"E956\">secondary<\/span><span id=\"E958\"> <\/span><span id=\"E960\">education<\/span><span id=\"E962\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E252\" class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\"><span id=\"E966\">Teachers<\/span><span id=\"E968\">&#8216; <\/span><span id=\"E970\">working<\/span><span id=\"E972\"> <\/span><span id=\"E974\">conditions<\/span><span id=\"E976\"> are <\/span><span id=\"E978\">generally<\/span><span id=\"E980\"> <\/span><span id=\"E982\">good<\/span><span id=\"E984\">, <\/span><span id=\"E986\">although<\/span><span id=\"E988\"> <\/span><span id=\"E990\">they<\/span><span id=\"E992\"> <\/span><span id=\"E994\">have<\/span><span id=\"E996\"> <\/span><span id=\"E998\">worsened<\/span><span id=\"E1000\"> in <\/span><span id=\"E1002\">some<\/span><span id=\"E1004\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1006\">areas<\/span><span id=\"E1008\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E254\" class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\"><span id=\"E255\">\u2192 <span id=\"E1011\">Salaries <\/span><span id=\"E1013\">dropped<\/span><span id=\"E1015\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1017\">during<\/span><span id=\"E1019\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1021\">the<\/span><span id=\"E1023\"> Great <\/span><span id=\"E1025\">Recession<\/span><span id=\"E1027\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1029\">but<\/span><span id=\"E1031\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1033\">have<\/span><span id=\"E1035\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1037\">since<\/span><span id=\"E1039\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1041\">recovered<\/span><span id=\"E1043\">, <\/span><span id=\"E1045\">aligned<\/span><span id=\"E1047\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1049\">with<\/span><span id=\"E1051\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1053\">other<\/span><span id=\"E1055\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1057\">professions<\/span><span id=\"E1059\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E256\" class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\"><span id=\"E257\">\u2192 <span id=\"E1063\">While<\/span><span id=\"E1065\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1067\">the<\/span><span id=\"E1069\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1071\">number<\/span><span id=\"E1073\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1075\">of<\/span><span id=\"E1077\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1079\">teaching<\/span><span id=\"E1081\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1083\">hours<\/span><span id=\"E1085\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1087\">is<\/span><span id=\"E1089\"> similar <\/span><span id=\"E1091\">to<\/span><span id=\"E1093\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1095\">the<\/span><span id=\"E1097\"> OECD <\/span><span id=\"E1099\">average<\/span><span id=\"E1101\">, <\/span><span id=\"E1103\">the<\/span><span id=\"E1105\"> more <\/span><span id=\"E1107\">compressed<\/span><span id=\"E1109\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1111\">school<\/span><span id=\"E1113\"> calendar <\/span><span id=\"E1115\">creates<\/span><span id=\"E1117\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1119\">daily<\/span><span id=\"E1121\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1123\">pressures<\/span><span id=\"E1125\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E258\" class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\"><span id=\"E259\">\u2192 <span id=\"E1129\">The<\/span><span id=\"E1131\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1133\">rate<\/span><span id=\"E1135\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1137\">of<\/span><span id=\"E1139\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1141\">temporary<\/span><span id=\"E1143\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1145\">contracts<\/span><span id=\"E1147\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1149\">is<\/span><span id=\"E1151\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1153\">high<\/span><span id=\"E1155\"> and <\/span><span id=\"E1157\">regressive<\/span><span id=\"E1159\">: in 2018, 34% <\/span><span id=\"E1161\">of<\/span><span id=\"E1163\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1165\">teachers<\/span><span id=\"E1167\"> in <\/span><span id=\"E1169\">the<\/span><span id=\"E1171\"> 25% <\/span><span id=\"E1173\">of<\/span><span id=\"E1175\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1177\">schools<\/span><span id=\"E1179\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1181\">serving<\/span><span id=\"E1183\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1185\">the<\/span><span id=\"E1187\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1189\">most<\/span><span id=\"E1191\"> vulnerable <\/span><span id=\"E1193\">students<\/span><span id=\"E1195\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1197\">had<\/span><span id=\"E1199\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1201\">been<\/span><span id=\"E1203\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1205\">working<\/span><span id=\"E1207\"> at <\/span><span id=\"E1209\">the<\/span><span id=\"E1211\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1213\">same<\/span><span id=\"E1215\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1217\">school<\/span><span id=\"E1219\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1221\">for<\/span><span id=\"E1223\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1225\">less<\/span><span id=\"E1227\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1229\">than<\/span><span id=\"E1231\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1233\">three<\/span><span id=\"E1235\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1237\">years<\/span><span id=\"E1239\">, <\/span><span id=\"E1241\">compared<\/span><span id=\"E1243\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1245\">to<\/span><span id=\"E1247\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1249\">only<\/span><span id=\"E1251\"> 15% in <\/span><span id=\"E1253\">schools<\/span><span id=\"E1255\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1257\">serving<\/span><span id=\"E1259\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1261\">fewer<\/span><span id=\"E1263\"> vulnerable <\/span><span id=\"E1265\">students<\/span><span id=\"E1267\">.<\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E260\" class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\"><span id=\"E1271\">The<\/span><span id=\"E1273\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1275\">lack<\/span><span id=\"E1277\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1279\">of<\/span><span id=\"E1281\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1283\">policies<\/span><span id=\"E1285\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1287\">focused<\/span><span id=\"E1289\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1291\">on<\/span><span id=\"E1293\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1295\">teaching<\/span><span id=\"E1297\"> staff <\/span><span id=\"E1299\">is<\/span><span id=\"E1301\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1303\">negatively<\/span><span id=\"E1305\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1307\">impacting<\/span><span id=\"E1309\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1311\">the<\/span><span id=\"E1313\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1315\">attractiveness<\/span><span id=\"E1317\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1319\">of<\/span><span id=\"E1321\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1323\">the<\/span><span id=\"E1325\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1327\">profession<\/span><span id=\"E1329\">:<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\">\u2192\u00a0<span id=\"E1334\">Spain<\/span><span id=\"E1336\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1338\">is<\/span><span id=\"E1340\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1342\">the<\/span><span id=\"E1344\"> OECD country <\/span><span id=\"E1346\">where<\/span><span id=\"E1348\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1350\">secondary<\/span><span id=\"E1352\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1354\">teachers<\/span><span id=\"E1356\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1358\">feel<\/span><span id=\"E1360\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1362\">least<\/span><span id=\"E1364\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1366\">prepared<\/span><span id=\"E1368\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1370\">to<\/span><span id=\"E1372\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1374\">teach<\/span><span id=\"E1376\"> in <\/span><span id=\"E1378\">contexts<\/span><span id=\"E1380\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1382\">with<\/span><span id=\"E1384\"> diverse <\/span><span id=\"E1386\">learning<\/span><span id=\"E1388\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1390\">levels<\/span><span id=\"E1392\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p id=\"E1393\" class=\"x-scope qowt-word-para-0\"><span id=\"E1394\">\u2192\u00a0<span id=\"E1334\"><\/span>In <\/span><span id=\"E1396\">early<\/span><span id=\"E1398\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1400\">childhood<\/span><span id=\"E1402\"> and <\/span><span id=\"E1404\">primary<\/span><span id=\"E1406\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1408\">education<\/span><span id=\"E1410\">, <\/span><span id=\"E1412\">teachers<\/span><span id=\"E1414\">&#8216; <\/span><span id=\"E1416\">competencies<\/span><span id=\"E1418\"> in <\/span><span id=\"E1420\">mathematics<\/span><span id=\"E1422\"> and <\/span><span id=\"E1424\">reading<\/span><span id=\"E1426\"> are <\/span><span id=\"E1428\">lower<\/span><span id=\"E1430\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1432\">than<\/span><span id=\"E1434\"> in <\/span><span id=\"E1436\">secondary<\/span><span id=\"E1438\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1440\">education<\/span><span id=\"E1442\">, <\/span><span id=\"E1444\">while<\/span><span id=\"E1446\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1448\">admission<\/span><span id=\"E1450\"> grades <\/span><span id=\"E1452\">for<\/span><span id=\"E1454\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1456\">teaching<\/span><span id=\"E1458\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1460\">degrees<\/span><span id=\"E1462\"> (Magisterio) <\/span><span id=\"E1464\">have<\/span><span id=\"E1466\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1468\">barely<\/span><span id=\"E1470\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1472\">increased<\/span><span id=\"E1474\">, <\/span><span id=\"E1476\">coinciding<\/span><span id=\"E1478\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1480\">with<\/span><span id=\"E1482\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1484\">lower<\/span><span id=\"E1486\"> salaries in <\/span><span id=\"E1488\">early<\/span><span id=\"E1490\"> <\/span><span id=\"E1492\">childhood<\/span><span id=\"E1494\"> and
