Cultural Spanish Programme

  • A key part of our Intensive Spanish language courses

  • The Cultural Spanish Programme is a key part of the Intensive Spanish language courses and reflects our belief that students cannot become fluent in a language without understanding its underlying culture. Cultural activities help students progress in their language learning and understand how Spanish, Catalan and Latin American people think. These activities address art, history and social issues, with a special focus on Barcelona.

    The Cultural Spanish Programme includes:
    • Lectures on Spain's best-known artists (Picasso, Dali, Miró); Art Nouveau/Modernisme architecture (Gaudí); Spanish literature (Lorca, Cervantes, etc.); Latin American literature (Magic Realism authors); history of Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain and Latin America; Spanish society (celebrities, the media, politics, customs and cultural differences arising in day-to-day contact with Spanish speakers).
    • Spanish and Latin American films, which provide an excellent tool for improving students' listening comprehension and understanding the cultural situation of the country where they were made.
    • Workshops (dance, theatrical improvisation, etc.)
    • Two cultural visits to places of interest in and around Barcelona.
