  • CORPORATE CULTURE AND VALUES

Recognising the individual and the collective value of employees within organisations has, over time, become an obligation instead of just an option. Companies have to become increasingly aware of the growing influence of business culture and employees in the environments where they work. The IEL carries out research on corporate culture and values from different perspectives.

  • Organizational Culture amongst Spanish Firms: Impact on Performance

    Project Manager: Desiree Knoppen (ESADE)
Academic Partners: Roger Bell (ESADE) & Miriam Díez (ESADE)
    Abstract

Management by values is a new strategic leadership tool based on values and corporate culture. Its purpose is to simplify corporate complexity, orient all members of the company towards common goals, and achieve commitment to professional daily work. The book La dirección por valores [Management by Values] (McGraw Hill, 2003), by Salvador García and Simon L. Dolan was a recent best-seller. Obser vations on professional experience in big Spanish firms were analysed in ESADE's Executive Education programme and employed in early 2003 to carry out an empirical study on corporate values in collaboration with the international consultant Great Place to Work.

This project analyses the way in which human resource management may enhance staff satisfaction and financial performance through the adoption of consistent values.

  • International study on MBA qualified managers

Project Manager: Roger Bell & Amy Leaveston (ESADE)
Academic Partners: Simon Dolan & Yingying Zhang (ESADE)
    Abstract

Companies drive business activity, which in turn is one of the main factors spurring development. That is why the people who run and make up companies are vital for ensuring that firms are properly managed and can compete in an increasingly complex environment.

Discovering what future managers around the world think is not only a challenge but also allows one to envisage various business scenarios for tomorrow's world. These managers will have to shoulder considerable responsibilities in the future, face new decisions, and meet great challenges.

"Values" is a relatively new concept in the business world. This new discourse represents a cultural shift in companies and directly affects fundamental strategic issues. However, one can say that true leadership involves a dialogue on values. After all, a firm's future is forged by the ar ticulation of the values, metaphors, symbols, and concepts that shape the daily value-creation activities under taken by company staff. Accordingly, this research study will analyse the values of managers to life and work in general. The population will comprise MBA-qualified managers who studied at renowned business schools around the world.

The research will also analyse similarities and differences regarding value systems, and examine the link between dominant value systems and socio-personal, training, and cultural factors.

  • Validation Study of the Triaxial Model of Corporate Values

Project Managers : Salvador García (UB) & Miriam Díez (ESADE)
Academic Partners: Roger Bell (ESADE)  & Simon Dolan (ESADE)

    Abstract:

The project is based on a novel conceptual model of management by values (DpV), developed by Salvador García and Simon L. Dolan. The model puts forward three types of values governing companies: ethical values, emotional, values, and economic values. This implies a new way of understanding company management.
