The IEL's five defined areas of research centered on 3 strategic objectives:

1. Consolidate the current research group by including post-doctoral researchers in the different areas.
2. Stimulate participation by pre-doctoral researchers in the different areas of research.
3. Internationalise the IEL's research activity by participating in prestigious scientific networks.
