Question time
  • Welcome to the dedicated online forum for the 2007 Colloquium "Question Time" plenary session. This page is a significant step towards making the conference the most interactive EABIS Colloquium to date!

In line with this, the EABIS and ESADE teams invite you to contribute your questions in advance of our "Question Time" panel on "Business, Global Governance and Global Issues - The Challenges and Opportunities of Climate Change". Please ensure that your inputs remain in line with the theme of the session. The most challenging and interesting will be selected to shape the debate in plenary.

Developing New Insights with International Experts

With EABIS Executive Director Peter Lacy as Chair, we have gathered an eminent panel to address your questions:

    • Polly Courtice - Director, Univ. of Cambridge Programme for Industry
    • Programme for Industry Prof. Ans Kolk - Research Director, Univ. of Amsterdam Business School
    • Dr. Lex Holst - Global VP Strategic Projects, Shell International
    • Frank Brown - Dean, INSEAD
    • Dr. Andrew White - Managing Director, Innovest

To help steer your questions, we hope to cover some of the following themes:

    1. To give the audience a "primer" on the key scientific, policy, economic, business and education dimensions of climate change, from different perspectives (science, business, academia, investment etc), as a key issue for the theme of business and global governance
    2. To highlight the growing influence and impact of climate change on today’s increasingly complex business environment, and the way in which companies are engaging with global governance on this topic (both shaping and being shaped by)
    3. To discuss the growing expectations placed on business to take the lead in addressing climate change given the slow moving nature of global governance mechanisms (Kyoto etc)
    4. To question whether climate change is an enabler or barrier to the broader corporate responsibility / sustainability agenda, and whether or not climate change is simply part of a broader corporate response to a shift in society’s expectations on business, global issues and global governance
    5. To examine the challenges / risks and opportunities that climate change presents to companies - both directly and indirectly, and the extent to which companies are already integrating this into core strategy at CEO / Exco / Board level
    6. To explore different strategies companies are pursuing including regulation, differentiation and collaboration through possible models of partnership, self regulation and voluntary standards on climate change
    7. To debate what kinds of knowledge, skills and understanding are and will be required by today’s and tomorrow’s leaders, and what may be required from management educators in business schools and companies to equip these leaders to manage the risks and opportunities for their companies and for society at large
