Biography
José Luis Álvarez has been Visiting Professor at INSEAD since 2001, both in the MBA Programme (where he has obtained the Best Teacher Award) and in Executive Education, where he teaches in the senior programmes such as the International Executive Programme, the Advanced Management Programme, and numerous seminars and company-specific programmes. He is also one of the few Spanish management scholars with an official faculty appointment from the President of Harvard University, where he taught on HBS's prestigious MBA programme.
His current research, teaching and consulting centres on the evolution of top executive roles and their forums for strategic decision-making and implementation, such as boards of directors and executive committees.
His publications have appeared in the Sloan Management Review, Organizations, Organization Studies, Corporate Governance, European Management Journal, etc. Professor Álvarez has published six books, the latest of which (co-authored) Sharing Executive Power, has been selected by the Academy of Management as one of the three finalists for the prestigious 2007 George Terry Award. He is also active in the media, with articles, interviews and quotes in publications such as The Financial Times, International Herald Tribune, The Indian Times, The Atlanta Journal Constitution, El País, El Mundo, La Vanguardia, Expansión, Cinco Días and the weekly Actualidad Económica.
