ESADE ranks global #1 in The Wall Street Journal

The Wall Street Journal, (September 18 2007)

ESADE has been ranked top international Business School by The Wall Street Journal for the second year in a row

For the second year running, ESADE has been named the top international business school. In the ranking published today by The Wall Street Journal, based on the opinions of nearly 4,500 companies from around the world that recruit MBA graduates, ESADE holds on to the coveted number one spot.

ESADE is followed by the Swiss business school IMD in 2nd place and the London Business School in 3rd place. The business daily praised ESADE for the integrity and teamwork orientation of its MBA graduates and the quality of its Career Services office. With the publication of this edition of the ranking, ESADE becomes one of the few business schools to hold onto the top spot for two years in a row. Furthermore, it has been ranked among the top three for the past four years.

Carlos Losada, Director General of ESADE, stressed the importance of the ranking, saying that it "recognises not only ESADE for its work over the past 50 years, but also the students who choose ESADE and prove every day that they are good professionals and great people".

A ranking that reflects market opinion

Because it is strictly based on the opinions of companies that recruit MBA graduates, the Wall Street Journal ranking is an accurate reflection of market opinion. For this year's edition, the newspaper analysed surveys completed by 4,430 recruiters, companies and businesspeople who hire MBA graduates for executive positions. Based on an analysis of these opinions, The Wall Street Journal drew up a list of the top 25 business schools in the world.

The ranking was based on three parameters: the companies' overall satisfaction with the graduates (based on 21 attributes), the schools' ability to attract international recruiters and each company's willingness to hire more graduates from a particular school.

Students from more than 35 countries and new collaboration agreements

This September, 117 new students have started the 18-Month Full-Time MBA at ESADE. With an average age of 28, the class of 2009 is highly international. The students have more than four years of professional experience, on average. Close to 85% of the students are foreign, hailing from more than 35 different countries (18% from Europe, 25% from Latin America, 20% from North America and 14% from Asia).

ESADE has established collaboration agreements with over 100 top business schools worldwide. In an interview published today in The Wall Street Journal alongside the ranking, Xavier Mendoza, Dean of ESADE Business School, highlighted new agreements with Tsinghua University in Beijing, Fudan University in Shanghai and the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad. According to Mr. Mendoza, these agreements allow ESADE students to obtain greater knowledge of the new realities of emerging Asian markets, not only in terms of economic development, but also in relation to the overall transformation of these countries and, in particular, their rapid social transformations.

New recognition on a special occasion: ESADE's 50th anniversary

ESADE's position at the top of the new Wall Street Journal ranking is new recognition of the values of the graduates it has produced for the past half-century. This honour coincides with the celebration of the business school's 50th anniversary.
