ESADE

reinvents its educational experience

Student First is ESADE's project to renew its educational methodology in order to create innovative learning ecosystems capable of enhancing the transformational power of the educational experiences that our various programmes offer to students and participants.

Thanks to the flipped-learning methodology, which allows students to learn basic concepts before attending face-to-face sessions, we are able to, increase the transformational power of our classroom experiences, allowing students to:

1

Play a central role in their own learning process by solving authentic – i.e. roughly defined and multidisciplinary – problems;

2

Obtain advice, recommendations and guidance throughout the process of tackling the assigned challenges, rather than simply getting feedback on the final product;

3

Seize opportunities to get to know themselves better;

4

Make their voices heard; and

5

Give the very best of themselves.

Enhancing the learning experience at ESADE

How does the role of students and faculty change?

Educational activity takes place in a two-way system in which faculty and students co-construct and share responsibility for the learning process, thereby reproducing the complexity of the professional and managerial environments that they will one day need to navigate.

Faculty will continue to play a strategic role: first, they will ensure the quality of the sources of knowledge and share cutting-edge knowledge based on research; second, they will share the keys to analysing possible solutions to the assigned learning challenges and guarantee conditions that will make them more effective; and third, they will guide students in transferring what they have learned to new learning situations.

Thanks to the support of the Center for Educational Innovation (CEI), faculty are able to get the most out of the new learning dynamics in their subjects.

Student First in a nutshell

  • From information to knowledge

    The emphasis shifts from transmitting information to creating meta-knowledge that can be applied to the analysis of concrete realities. The faculty put their students to the test, consolidating their learning on the basis of action-oriented challenges and projects.

  • Students study basic concepts before face-to-face sessions

    Students use online formats, reading assignments, videos and tests to confirm that they have learned the necessary basics before class; the classroom is a place for clarifying, deepening and applying knowledge, and sharing points of view.

  • Digital platforms and content play a fundamental role in the process

    Digital platforms and content allow a significant portion of individual learning, interaction between teachers and students, and even assessment of learning to be transferred outside the classroom.

  • Students learn in "wide angle" mode, leaping over barriers between academic disciplines

    The world is not a puzzle of subjects designed by professors in their respective silos of knowledge. It is a complex reality that we must learn to understand and manage a multidisciplinary way.

New learning ecosystem:
Rambla of Innovation

With Student First, learning means, to a large degree, experimenting and putting ideas into practice. ESADE has created an environment of spaces and laboratories designed to facilitate the virtuous circle of experimentation, learning and innovation.

Located in ESADECREAPOLIS, this environment enables students, faculty, researchers, entrepreneurs and companies to come into contact with each other, collaborating on processes ranging from the generation of ideas to the completion of prototypes, as well as design, entrepreneurship and project acceleration.

The Rambla of Innovation includes:

EGarage

A space to foster students' entrepreneurial spirit.

EWorks

A place where ideas and projects become a reality. This is a work area for entrepreneurs who already have a clear plan and want to start working on it.

Decision Lab

A facility that allows faculty and researchers to explore the key decision-making processes of people in markets.

Fusion Point

A space designed to allow students – working alongside faculty members – to find solutions and provide responses to new challenges by applying design thinking.

FabLab

A space for building prototypes and performing all kinds of tests on new products.
