Admissions
Academic background
Candidates must have completed a minimum of 240 ECTS credits [1] as part of university degree or postgraduate studies. Further they need to hold a degree qualification in Business/Management or hold a degree (Economics, Engineering, Psychology, Sociology, etc…) with at least 18 credits in Business/Management [2]. Candidates with diplomas or who have incomplete university studies will not be admitted.
[1] Exceptionally, excellent candidates with bachelors of 180 ECTS can be admitted in the MRes program. To meet the requirements of the PhD program in terms of ECTS credits required, those MRes candidates continuing with the PhD program with an official degree of less than 240 ECTS credits will have the opportunity to take additional courses during a second year of the MRes program.
[2] Candidates with less than 18 credits in business/management will be requested to take courses prior joining the MRes.
Required documentation (in addition to degree qualification)
In addition to the required degree qualification, candidates should:
- Submit the transcripts of their previous studies. Transcripts should provide information on the grading system of the university (maximum grade that can be achieved and minimum grade needed to pass).
- Send a Research Proposal (limited to 3 pages).
- The program is taught entirely in English. A number of language aptitude tests are accepted. Minimum scores required for entry are as follows (Valid only for two years): TOEFL: 100, IELTS: 7.0, Certificate in Advanced English: B, Certificate of Proficiency in English: or PTE Academic: 72. If your mother tongue is English or if you have taken your university studies in this language (minimum of 3 academic years), it is not necessary for you to demonstrate your level of English through an language aptitude test, provided that you present the corresponding documentation to justify this exemption.
- GMAT or GRE test results (valid for 5 years).
- Submit the application form.
- Two letters of recommendation concerning the candidate’s academic development and experience in research.
Professional experience
Work experience is NOT a requirement to be admitted to the Master of Research in Management Sciences.
Admission process
Esade is seeking applications for the Doctoral Programme in Management Sciences starting in September 2024. The Programme is full time and taught in English at our Barcelona-Sant Cugat campus.
This programme consists of a one-year Master of Research (MRes), which comprises the specialized research coursework of the PhD (further information: MRes website), three years dedicated to the development of the PhD dissertation. If needed, there is an additional fourth year not funded (further information: PhD website).
Areas of specialization include: Strategy and Entrepreneurship, Social Innovation, Marketing and Data Driven Decisions, Leadership& Organizational Behavior, Supply Chain & Operations Management, Innovation and Knowledge Management, Economics, Accounting & Finance and Geopolitics and Public Management. During your application process you have to indicate explicitly wich research area you are interested in.
When to apply
Firstly, you will be requested to fill in an electronic application form. Please make sure you submit the online application before the deadline for the second round of applications to the MRes program, which is April 21st, 2024. We can’t start processing your application until this process has been completed.
Once this has been done, you will be requested to submit additional documentation and very likely, you will be contacted to have an online interview with a member of the research group you are interested in.
We encourage candidates to apply as soon as possible. The deadline to apply to the MRes and provide all requested documents is 21st April 2024. Applications will be evaluated on a rolling basis until the deadline.

3. Interview
Interviews can be made online or face-to-face.
Tuition fees
The total cost of the Master of Research in Management Sciences for the academic year 2024-2025 amounts to 15,400 euros.

Financing
Esade is a non-profit private institution. Financial aid based on a need and merit may be granted by Esade in the form of scholarships.
12 Talent Scholarships are available for the MRes 24-25
ESADE offers 12 Talent Scholarships for the MRes 24-25 that cover 100% tuition waiver and living expenses. Living stipend for the one-year MRes is 17.406€. The Scholarship can be extended to the PhD dissertation period including a 100% tuition waiver and living expenses. Living stipend for the PhD is 17.650€ during 1st and 2nd year and 18.912€ for 3rd year. TA/RA activities can be performed during the PhD providing extra income.
