ESADE appoints nine new faculty members with international experience

ESADE Business & Law School has appointed nine new faculty members in the 2017-2018 academic year, all of whom have international experience and were trained at the world’s top universities. George Chondrakis, Bart de Langhe, Tobias Hahn, Miquel Noguer, Jordi Quoidbach, Giulia Redigolo, Uri Simonsohn, David Velázquez and Jan Hohberger have all joined the ESADE teaching staff, which is now 144 members strong and represents 18 nationalities.

According to Jonathan Wareham,Dean of Faculty and Research, ESADE is becoming increasingly diverse and global. ‘We are seeking lecturers who can increase our international diversity, whilst at the same time enriching the institution with different teaching styles, educational traditions and professional backgrounds’, he explained. Wareham also highlighted the need for academics with experience in big data and business and technological innovation. ‘Big data is transforming key paradigms in the business world, so we have to train our students in these new skills’, he added. To this end, he continued, ‘we have these new international specialists in the fields of quantitative methodology, psychology and marketing, artificial intelligence and data analysis’.

The new ESADE Business and Law School faculty members are:

George ChondrakisAssistant Professor in the Department of Strategy and General Management. He earned his PhD in 2013 from Said Business School at the University of Oxford. He specialises in technology strategy, supplier relations, mergers and acquisitions, and intellectual property rights. Prior to joining ESADE, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Oxford.

Bart de Langhe, Associate Professor in the Department of Marketing. He holds a PhD in Marketing (2011) from the Rotterdam School of Management at Erasmus University. His research examines how consumers and managers make judgements and decisions. In 2017, he was recognised by the Marketing Science Institute as one of the most promising young scholars in marketing.

Tobias Hahn, Professor in the Department of Social Sciences. He holds a PhD in Economics and Social Science (2005) from the University of Lüneburg. His areas of expertise are corporate sustainability and corporate social responsibility. He is a senior editor of the journal Organization & Environment and president of the Group for Research on Organizations and the Natural Environment.

Miquel Noguer, Lecturer in the Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting. He holds a PhD in Applied Financial Mathematics from the National Distance Education University (UNED) in Spain. His research interests range from asset allocation, big data and machine learning to algorithmic trading and fintech. He was a visiting professor in the Finance and Economics Department at the University of Colombia in 2013 and in the Mathematics Department at Fribourg University in 2010.

Jordi Quoidbach, Associate Professor in the Department of People Management and Organisation. He holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Liège. His work highlights novel perspectives to increase happiness and help people make professional and personal decisions. He has authored several popular books on emotions and happiness and is the host of J'ai décidé d'être heureux, a TV series on coaching broadcast by the French TV channel M6.

Giulia Redigolo, Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics, Finance and Accounting. She holds a PhD in Business Administration from the Graduate School in Economics and Management at Ca’Foscari University of Venice and Padua[k2] . She has been a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Padua and a visiting research scholar [k3] at Goizueta Business School at Emory University. Her research focuses on corporate disclosure, earnings guidance, social media and capital markets.

Uri Simonsohn, Associate Professor in the Department of Operations, Innovation and Data Sciences and the Department of Marketing. He holds a PhD from the Social and Decision Sciences Department at Carnegie Mellon University[k4] . For the last 15 years, he has been a professor at The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. His two main lines of research are focused on how individuals think and make judgements and decisions and how researchers do (methodology).

David Velázquez, Professor at ESADE Law School. He is a lawyer and magistrate with experience in all jurisdictions. He has proven experience in implementing corporate compliance and legal representation programmes for companies as a director at PwC and partner at Cuatrecasas. He is also an external consultant to the World Bank on the review of multinational compliance programmes and compliance with the World Bank Group’s Integrity Compliance Guidelines.

Jan Hohberger, Professor in the Department of Strategy and General Management. He holds a PhD in Management Sciences from ESADE. He has been a visiting professor at The Wharton School of Business and Georgetown University. His research focuses on strategic and innovation issues, especially knowledge acquisition, alliances and informal partnerships in the tech industry.
