ESADE held a cultural event as a continuation of the Chinese New Year. This is The Year of The Pig, which symbolises fertility in Chinese culture. The event — which was organised by the ESADE Students’ Chinese Associationtook place at the European International School of Barcelona. Attendees were treated to music and dance performances that gave students and faculty a taste of Chinese culture. Various instruments were played, including Tanggu drums, and the Guzheng (a Chinese zither), an instrument that goes back over 2,500 years. The classical Miao dance was also performed.

The event was attended by Mrs. Lin Nan, the Consul-General of The People’s Republic of China in Barcelona, and by Prof. Josep Franch, Dean of ESADE Business School. Other authorities present at the event included: Mrs. Esther Salat, Councillor for Education, Family, and Human Resources, Sant Cugat Town Council; Javier Orduña, Co-Director of Fundació Institut Confuci de Barcelona; Mr. Amadeu Jensana Tanehashi, Director of the Business Centre of Casa Asia; Associate Deans and Directors of ESADE’s BBA and MSc programmes.

Academic alliances between ESADE and China

Fostering relations with China is a priority for ESADE and is part of its internationalisation strategy. During this academic year, ESADE has signed an agreement with Shanghai Jiao Tong University to launch a new Double Degree programme for MSc students. Under the agreement, students will be awarded a double degree: an MSc in International Business (MIB) from Shanghai Jiao Tong University and an MSc in Management from ESADE Business School - Universitat Ramon Llull (URL).

ESADE also has student exchange agreements with Chinese universities, through both the ESADE Business School and the ESADE Law School. Among others, there are exchange agreements with the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Fudan University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Peking University Law School. The rising number of Chinese partners is the fruit of students’ strong interest in China and desire to forge such links, and of ESADE’s internationalisation drive in Asia.
