Marc Sanz López

Marc Sanz López (Valencia, 1988) earned a Bachelor and Master of Business Administration at ESADE between 2006 and 2011. During his time at the school, he co-founded the Finance and Economy Group, an entrepreneurship-focused student association that organises TEDxESADE events. During those first years, he received a Talent Scholarship from ESADE. At the same time, he earned a music degree from the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona (CMMB).

During his last year at ESADE, Google recruited him to work in its Dublin offices. A few years later, he moved to the company’s London offices to become Head of Google for Education (South of Europe). During his time in Dublin, he also sat on the board of Google for Entrepreneurs.

When he is not travelling to meet with teachers and schools about Google’s vision for the future of education, Marc likes to run, play the saxophone, practise the drums and, like a good Valencian, make paellas for his friends. In addition, he is the co-founder and CEO of HAIL Studios, a mobile video game company, a beta tester for every Google gadget he can his hands on, and needs coffee and good music to wake up every morning.

Life on the road

In Marc’s view, “life is global, so you have to live with one foot on a plane and the other on a train if you want to be relevant”. His day-to-day work involves travelling frequently to meet with schools, students and educational institutions to present Google for Education’s tools.

Getting the call from Google: a dream come true

After seven interviews, Google hired Marc while he was still in his last year at ESADE. Since calling his mother to share the news, he has continued to develop his career at the tech giant, gaining seniority year after year.

Working for Google in London

Google is famous for its fun facilities and the free snacks it provides for its workers all over the world. Its London office is no exception. Marc takes quick breaks to practise the drums and clear his mind.

Making it look easy

With doses of his infallible sense of humour, optimism and clarity, Marc makes the challenges and endeavours of the world around him seem easier than they really are.

Cooking for friends

Generosity can be demonstrated in many ways: cooking is one of them. Marc loves to give paella workshops for colleagues from work and cook this typical Valencian meal for his friends.

Concentration and focus

“Music is an indispensable ingredient that helps me concentrate. Rhythm and music stimulate the brain in ways that nothing else can.”

"What I like most about Google is, on the one hand the people you work with: great people generally very passionate about what they do; and on the other hand the autonomy, the independence. If you prove yourself, the amount of independence and autonomy you get at Google in insane."
