Industry

Interviews for opportunities within Industry are generally focused on the function for which you are applying (for example, marketing, sales, operations, technology, human resources, research) as well as the organization and sector. Interviewers tend to look for candidates that are genuinely interested in the sector, who have some experiences in the sector OR function and who have a good understanding of general business and management issues.

Interviews for positions within Industry may be competency-based, with each interviewer focusing on one area. The types of competences that companies in this sector look for in successful candidates include: the ability to work as part of a team; business focus; leadership skills; problem-solving ability; creativity; analytical skills. In preparing for the interview, you should research the sector and the particular organization in detail and review your past experience to identify relevant experience that you can draw upon in the interview.

Assessment Centers and Psychometric Tests are often used in Industry recruiting processes, particularly for multinational organizations. They are designed to see how you interact with others, how you solve business problems and whether you would be a good fit for the culture of the firm.
