During the Interview
Tips to keep in mind during the interview:
- First impressions are extremely important. Arrive on time, give a firm handshake, compose yourself, politely answer any small talk and show enthusiasm.
- Listen carefully
- Stay focused: answer the questions put to you by the recruiter. Do not talk too much or wander off track!
- Be enthusiastic, even if you have been asked the question before. Vary your answers and the tone of your voice. Smile!
- Allow for spontaneous interaction. Take advantages of opportunities to find out about your interviewers, their careers, and the particulars of the company itself.
- Be aware of the body language of the interviewer. If he/she begins to look impatient, try to be concise in your answers. If they look particularly interested in a topic you are talking about, give them more information.
- Do not panic if you have a poor interview or give some answers that are not perfect. You will be assessed on the overall performance. Pull yourself together and take a deep breath between each interview.
- Ask questions. Having researched the company, prepare some insightful questions. Ask about their strategy, their opinion on current market issues, how they differentiate themselves from the competition.
- Clarify the next step in the process. Show that you are genuinely interested in the job and that you want to take it further.
- Be yourself and have fun. Companies do not expect perfection but they do want to get to know the type of person you are.
