Common interviewing mistakes

Recruiters cite the following mistakes as those which most commonly eliminate candidates from the selection process:

1. Having inadequate knowledge of the company or industry
2. Not listening closely to the questions
3. Failing to back up statements with examples
4. Not allowing yourself time to think before responding
5. Talking negatively about former employers, coworkers, or clients
6. Exaggerating your accomplishments
7. Responding to questions without confidence or enthusiasm
8. Behaving arrogantly or coming across as cocky
9. Overstating language abilities
10. Arriving late
